Dear Northbrook Residents, Happy New Year! The past year has flown by at the Library. Not only have we completed our meeting room renovations, but we have added a whole host of new programming. We hope you have enjoyed the new programs we are offering. One of our resolutions for 2016 is to continue to build upon those programs and to look for new and exciting programs to offer you. Some sneak peaks include a Rock and Roll Month, more STEM programming for kids, and a 1980’s flashback event. If you have a program you would like to see at the Library, please let us know. For me, January and February are the perfect time of year to sit with a good book by a fire with a cup of hot chocolate. You can safely watch the snow from inside while perhaps reading about a tropical beach. And, you can win prizes for reading books if you sign up for our Winter Reading Club. All ages are invited to visit us at the Library to sign up; then, keep track of what you read to win great prizes. May your new year bring you many happy tales (and trips to the Library). NEWS OF THE FRIENDS The Board of the Friends of the Library wish all of our members and library patrons a healthy, prosperous and happy New Year! Our membership has remained in the 650-700 range for a few years now. We always encourage new participation; with entry-level dues of just $10, even people on limited budgets can be a part of the Library’s development. Please join, renew and continue your membership—perhaps at a higher level—and invite your friends to become Friends of a great library. Our Bookshop, now seven months in operation, continues to make a reasonable contribution to our treasury. The goals of the Friends are twofold: to generate revenue from members’ dues and Bookshop income, and to allocate funds to assist the library in non-budgeted areas. About once a year we are able to fulfill some items on the Library’s “wish list.” Another contribution from the Friends is the array of first prize artworks displayed throughout the building. The Friends have happily donated the $2000 purchase price for each first prize work, and the building’s inside appearance has thereby been greatly enhanced. We are always in need of dedicated, reliable volunteers for our Bookshop. For more information, call the Library (ext.175). Next Board Meeting: Tuesday, January 12, 10am, Civic Room
