Notes from the Director I didn’t learn to sew until I was in my mid-20s. But once I did, I was hooked. To me, sewing is about exploring the possibilities and creating something new or adapting something that already exists into a piece with your personal stamp on it. It relaxes me and brings me joy not only when I am working on a project, but also when I am talking with others about sewing. That's why I'm so excited about our new makerspace, the Collaboratory. It is a space for you to explore your interests and engage in creative projects using our equipment, materials, and supplies.

NPL NEWS

YOU'RE INVITED! Makerspace Grand Opening: July 28 Help us celebrate our new makerspace on Saturday, July 28! Join us in the Collaboratory from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Explore the space, learn about the equipment, and have fun with crafts and activities.

As one of the first real users of the Collaboratory space, I found [the staff's] expertise, practical knowledge, and willingness to help me really went above and beyond anything I could have wished for. I was able to produce some items for myself and for the North Shore Radio Club, (a not-for-profit organization).” – Burt Krain, patron

In addition to sewing machines, we have a CNC machine, an embroidery machine, robotics kits, and so much more. We now have the tools to help anyone with a passion for creating and the space for you to share what you are learning with others. Summer is the perfect time to come and explore your creativity. You don’t have to travel far to have an action packed summer. We made this space for you and can’t wait to see how you use it to create, collaborate and inspire. I look forward to seeing the amazing projects you design! Kate Hall, Executive Director

STAFF PICKS

Do you ever feel overwhelmed with reading and viewing choices? Don't fret; our staff is here to help. Here are some suggestions from our Circulation Department staff, who facilitate the check-out and return process, answer patron questions, and more. Twisted Prey, by John Sandford (#28 in his Lucas Davenport series), is a real page turner, set mainly in the D. C. area and with very timely political themes. What amazes me is how, after so many books about the same character, the author is still able to keep the series fresh and exciting, with a blockbuster climax.

– Vicki O. I’m loving the show "Riverdale" and also the Archie Comics reboot that the show is loosely based on.

– Stephanie M.

I am currently reading Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi. I've only just started it, but I can't wait to read this wonderful middle grade novel that will delve into the huge and incredible world of Hindu mythology set in the same universe as the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan! Next I'll be picking up the new novella by Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Frost and Starlight!

– Meredith C. I just read Little & Lion by Brandy Colbert and it’s a really moving story about a teenage girl comin to terms with her bisexuality while also handling the emotions that come with being a black American and her brother being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It’s fun, funny, but also very real and honest.

– Keelin M.
