Dear Northbrook Residents, You may notice that I am looking a little different in my picture this month. I have not suddenly decided to go with a new look though. I am just very excited about our upcoming ‘80s Month. During the month of April, we will be having a series of programs based on the 1980s. From a John Hughes movies series to some 1980s storytimes, we will be celebrating everything that was gnarly, righteous, and totally wicked about the ‘80s. However, one thing we will not be bringing from the 1980s is our technology. In the next year, we will be installing new WiFi to provide better coverage throughout the Library, replacing the computers in our Interactive Classroom and elsewhere, adding more MacBooks based on demand, upgrading our PC computers to Windows 10, developing an ongoing Technology Plan to better meet the needs of the community, and updating our computer reservation and print management system to make it even easier for patrons to log in to our computers, or your own to access our network and print.
April is ‘80s Month
Celebrate this iconic decade with the Library! Visit www.northbrook.info/80s for more information.

Wait for Holds Shrinks from 30 Days to Zero Currently, when you place an item the Northbrook Public Library owns on hold, your hold waits for 30 days to see if a Northbrook copy can fill your request. If after 30 days you have not received one of our copies, the system requests one from another library. Starting March 1, we will be eliminating the 30 day wait on holds from another library. If there is a copy available from any library when you place a hold, and we do not have a Northbrook copy to fulfill your request, a copy from another library will be sent here right away. What this means for you is that you will experience shorter wait times on holds, which equals more time for you to watch movies, read books, and enjoy CDs. Page 2

The Friends’ Bookshop has become the de facto clearing house for all book donations to the Northbrook Public Library. Donations are accepted, sorted and evaluated, put on sale, and then donated or discarded. All proceeds are passed on to the Library for non-budgeted needs. Recently, we granted the Library almost $15,000 for equipment desired by various departments. We also donated some boxes of Young Adult fiction to Maple School to enhance their collection. Be sure to scan this newsletter to find programs funded by the Friends, such as Gentle Yoga, Book and Poetry Discussions, Current Events meetings, and more. More dedicated shop volunteers are needed, as always, and we are interested in increasing the size of the Friends of the Library Board. If you are interested in either opportunity, inquire at the Bookshop, or call the Library at extension 175. Next Friends of the Library Board Meeting: Tuesday, March 8, 10am, Civic Room
Northbrook Community Choir Concert
Internationally-acclaimed violin and piano duo David Yonan and Susan Merdinger will present highlights of their newest prize winning CD, Four Centuries.
