o m e to lc e w NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE Thank you for joining us for the North Central College Fine & Performing Arts 2021-2022 season! We couldn’t be more excited to be able to share these incredibly talented artists with you, live and in person. We are in a unique and challenging time, but it is a joy to share fine arts events together once more. We kick off the season in November with Plain White T’s and Beckie Menzie and Tom Michael who will “re-Imagine The Beatles”. This is followed by fantastic performances in December with the Holiday Jazz Concert, Jim Brickman: The Gift of Christmas, and MICHAEL BOLTON, Greatest Hits & Holiday Favorites. January offers even more excitement with Jim Peterik’s World Stage, Chicago Sinfonietta’s “Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Concert: Joie de Vivre”, and Russian National Ballet’s “Swan Lake”. In February, tune in for “My Funny Valentine” with Pat Hazel and Karen Morgan, TheaterWorksUSA’s “Dog Man: The Musical”, and Take 6. In March, we welcome Natalie MacMaster & Donnell Leahy and Marianne Murphy Orland’s “Rags to Rhinestones: The Musical Life

of Dolly Parton”. We close out the season with TheaterWorksUSA’s “Rosie Revere, Engineer & Friends”, Kurt Elling, Laura Freeman “Backstage Pass” and The Four C Notes. We wish to express our sincere gratitude for our season sponsors and Friends of the Arts donors—thank you for your generous support this season. We would not be able to bring you these wonderful events and continue working toward future seasons without your generous contributions. And to you, our loyal audience: we want to thank you for your continued support and patronage. We hope you enjoy a performance or two! Without further ado, on with the show! Sincerely,

Jennifer Berosek Coordinator of Fine Arts

PLAIN WHITE T’S November 5, 2021

BIO GRAPH y Since emerging in 1997, the Grammy® Award-nominated multiplatinum Chicago quintet Plain White T’s—Tom Higgenson (vocals), Tim Lopez (lead guitar, vocals), Dave Tirio (rhythm guitar), Mike Retondo (bass), and De’Mar Hamilton (drums)—has amassed an enduring, engaging, and enigmatic catalog, spanning two gold-certified offerings “All That We Needed” (2005) and “Every Second Counts” (2006) and unshakable anthems such as the double-platinum “1,2,3,4” and platinum “Rhythm of Love.” Among the discography, “Hey There Delilah” went quadruple-platinum, topped the Billboard Hot 100, and earned a pair of 2008 Grammy® Award nominations in the categories of “Song of the Year” and “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.” Along the way, the five-piece logged countless miles on the road in front of sold-out crowds in nearly every corner of the globe. After a whirlwind tour cycle supporting 2015’s “American Nights”, the guys hunkered down and began writing the ideas that would eventually comprise “Parallel Universe”, released in August 2018. The band’s endlessly hummable signature melodies still shine at the center of this galaxy, but their “Universe” morphed into an otherworldly atmosphere of ethereal electronic pop strengthened by lush guitar tones and synth transmissions.

BECKIE MENZIE & TOM MICHAEL:

RE-IMAGINE THE BEATLES November 21, 2021

BIO GRAPH y Called “Beyond fabulous” by Chicago’s 98.7 WFMT-FM, Beckie Menzie & Tom Michael bring their celebrated show “Re-Imagine The Beatles” to North Central College. Celebrating their 20th anniversary as a duo, the award-winning Chicago-based concert artists are thrilled to explore the songs and inside stories of the “The Fab Four”, the most phenomenal music group in history. Menzie & Michael are known across the country for their ingenious musical twists on jazz, pop and Broadway standards. In their newest show, they cleverly re-imagine more than 25 of the most beloved songs of The Beatles, including “Eleanor Rigby”, “Yesterday”, “Come Together” and “The Fool on the Hill.” This will be the music of The Beatles like you have never heard before. Joining them on percussion will be Irwin Berkowitz. Menzie & Michael have appeared at Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York; at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre, Park West, Millennium Park, and Empire Room; and with numerous symphony orchestras. These five-time After Dark Award winners have been praised by Billboard Magazine, Show Business Weekly and Playbill and called “a divine intervention of musical genius” by The Houston Chronicle.
