Joe is one of the foremost, innovative, authorities in composite boat building and tool making. His passion for the sea is founded in his Portuguese heritage. He loves to work, his family works beside him daily, building better boats everyday, and during the summer months they can be found fishing on them after hours.
Joe decided to locate the production facility in the boat building capital of New England- Bristol, Rhode Island. Where we test new models with our dealers and boat owners on beautiful Narragansett Bay.

In 2000 the opportunity presented itself to purchase the Lema brand and hull molds. Shortly thereafter Lema was renamed NorthCoast Boats.

Yacht quality accommodations effortlessly crossover to family cruising adventures. Descend the open companionway wooden stairs and you are embraced by comfort, plenty of light from the skylight above, warm Mahogany veered bulkheads and comfortable seating area to port. The Head door is to starboard and Master stateroom straight ahead. The wood trim, floors, doors, and drawers set the tone for a spacious Master whose entrance is hidden behind a Mahogany door. Once inside, a walk-around large Queen berth with hinged 7 ½” custom spring mattress provides comfort and cover for hidden rod storage below. Reading lights and USB charging ports are on either side and there is a large hanging locker to port. Overhead is a 2’ x 2’ opening hatch with screen. A total of six opening portals with screens for additional light and fresh air. In total the 415HT will sleep six adults in comfort including the portside single crew berth, and aft three-quarter beam double, (both with 6 ½” hinged mattresses), and the convertible settee up in the pilothouse. The Head is complete with vanity, vessel sink, faucet, and glass door into a fully partitioned shower with teak grate and a seat.

The 415HT design can crossover effortlessly for your family cruising adventures. You can easily board through the portside cockpit side door, or transom door, into a 102 Sq. Ft cockpit. Our optional Cruising cockpit layout is ready for entertaining with an aft facing seat for two, a convenient cupholder in the armrest and built-in 27GAL cooler / storage below, leans against the aft full bulkhead with bi-folding windows and locking door.
The second cockpit molded floor has 150GAL of storage in the floor, access to the mechanical areas below, and a fully cushioned transom bench seat. Raised the comfortable cushions to access the aft bilge area and an additional 43GAL storage bin to port.You can select the Arrigoni Dining table option and enjoy alfresco dining in distant ports.

HULL AND DECK MATERIALS
o TECHNOLOGY
NorthCoast uses some of the most advanced technology in the marine industry in the design and construction of all NorthCoast. Only top quality, top performance materials which have been thoroughly tested are used.
o GELCOAT
To protect the laminate from the environment, all NorthCoast utilize Isophthalic (ISO) gelcoat. ISO gelcoats yield a denser, more frequently branched molecular network which inhibits migration of water molecules. Because of their structure, these gelcoats offer superior resistance to moisture penetration, blistering and fading. They are formulated to yield slightly more flexibility than most gelcoats which helps to resist cracking. Tests also indicate that ISO gelcoats produce the highest, most durable gloss finish, and retain it despite severe environmental exposure.
o GLASS FIBERS
High performance glass fabrics are used throughout the sandwich-type laminate. They offer superior strength and stiffness when compared to conventional cloth and woven roving materials used by many other builders. In high stress areas, biaxial fabrics, which can be oriented to yield maximum strength and stiffness, are used. These fibers require less resin and therefore, produce stronger, light weight structures.
o VINYLESTER RESIN
A special vinylester resin is used as a barrier behind the gelcoat to further resist moisture penetration. By excluding moisture, blistering cannot occur. The vinylester resin is also resilient like the gelcoat to increase crack resistance. The vinylester resins, in combination with ISO gelcoats and carefully selected fibers, produce the most blister resistant hulls available today.
o POLYESTER RESIN
A high quality polyester resin is used to complete the rest of the laminate. Selected for its compatibility with the high-performance fabrics used, this resin provides a high-strength, durable laminate, resistant to cracking and fatigue. Again, the correct balance of properties between each component is designed to assure that the high strength and stiffness will be retained throughout the life of your vessel.
HULL AND DECK CONSTRUCTION
o SANDWICH DESIGN
Sandwich construction is used in all NorthCoast decks to produce stronger, lighter, faster performance cruising boats. A fiberglass sandwich functions similarly to an "I" beam. "I" beams are used for construction because they make the most efficient use of materials based on structural criteria and reduce overall weight. The inner and outer skins of the sandwich function in the same ways as the top and bottom flanges of the "I" beam, and the core functions similarly to the web of the "I" beam. This means lighter decks can be produced which are actually stiffer and stronger.
o SOLID HULL BOTTOMS
No core is used on the bottom of the hull construction while other competitor core there bottoms they are exposing themselves to long-term problems with any significant impact through the thin external laminate if any water is left in the core it will act as a splitting wedge especially in cold climate where freezing is a major concern at NorthCoast our hull bottoms are SOLID laminate you will never have the issues that you would experience with cored bottoms that in itself is peace of mind.
o CORE MATERIAL
Many different cores are available for use in sandwich construction. We choose foam core in our hulls because it has superior physical properties over all other cores and is resistance to water penetration and savings in weight.
o QUALITY CONTROL
Great care is taken in controlling the quality during the production of laminated parts. Steps are necessary to guarantee that the physical properties used in the design is the same as those which are built into the part.
o GELCOAT TESTING
Gelcoat application is carefully controlled to ensure the proper coating thickness and performance. This is important when considering blister resistance. Proper catalyzation, thickness, and low porosity are key in producing a finish that will best resist the osmotic passage of moisture. Control of catalyzation is also very important for weatherability.
