SANC

A Systems Approach to Nursery Certification

Benefits of SANC North Creek was recently recognized as SANC compliant, becoming the 2nd nursery in the Keystone State and the 5th nursery in the nation to achieve this distinction. The Systems Approach to Nursery Certification (SANC) is a certification system based on how plants are produced rather than how plants appear at the time of a single inspection. The objective of this approach is to develop and implement a voluntary, audit-based nursery and greenhouse certification process utilizing existing state authorities for intrastate and interstate transfer of plant material. SANC is an ongoing effort to incorporate the designated processes into existing state based certification programs to reduce pest risk and disease movement while facilitating and expediting the handling of nursery stock.

IPM

Scouting inspections are managed by our Growing + Operations Team. All varieties are inspected and observed for pest and disease. Applicable sampling methods and techniques are implemented while scouting and inspecting crops.

We’re happy to share our experiences with you, if you’re interested in learning more about SANC please contact our Growing Operations Manager, Maddie Maynor, at maddie@northcreeknurseries.com.

Propagation + Growing

In-house propagation methods are held to the same rigorous scouting and standards as outside vendors. Clean tools and work stations. Plant handlers must wear gloves to eliminate the transmission of disease. Start clean, work clean, finish clean.

Neonicotinoid-free IPM We utilize natural and biological control agents to keep our plants disease and pest free in the greenhouses and safe for pollinators in the landscape. The North Creek way is rooted in the triple bottom line–people, planet, profit. We grow plants that provide nectar, nutrition and habitat for pollinators. Our use of beneficial insects is a frontline preventative and always the first step in our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) growing practices.

✓ Setting Action Thresholds ✓ Scouting + Identification ✓ Prevention + Control

Receiving

All incoming tissue culture and unrooted cuttings are inspected and observed before being introduced to production. Plants showing signs of damage or deemed inferior are isolated in a designated assessment area.

Check for errors right away and contact us as soon as possible if you have received the wrong quantity or size of plant or if you are dissatisfied with the quality of your plugs. Please check the roots of dormant plants for health and vigor.

Best method for plug removal

Pulling on the crown of the plant can break roots at the stem. We recommend pushing the root zone up and out from the base of the flat. We also strongly suggest using a spatula to dislodge the plug.
