Northeastern is leading a new Engineering PLUS (Partnerships Launching Underrepresented Students) Alliance to dramatically increase the annual graduation numbers of BIPOC and women engineering students. It is the only center funded by NSF INCLUDES with a focus on engineering.
Established in 2010, the NIH-funded PROTECT Superfund Research Center led by Northeastern is one of the largest mother-child cohorts in the U.S. focused on environmental health and engineering.
In 2021, Northeastern was awarded its second DHS Center of Excellence to engineer the security of public spaces. Previously, Northeastern led a DHS Center of Excellence on explosives detection.
Northeastern is one of just four FCC Spectrum Innovation Zones and the only one handling TeraHertz frequencies. Established in 2021, it is uniquely split between two distinct geographic regions: Northeastern’s Boston campus and its Innovation Campus in Burlington, Mass.
