FRAGMENTATION ALONG 30â °
EXHIBITION INSTALLATION
The purpose of the study was to investigate the multi-layered composition of the landscape by following a line of longitude running through Finnmark. The study came about following a preliminary analysis of Finnmark which resulted in a rather fragmented use of land and land-based activity. The study enriched my understanding of this sample of landscape in Finnmark. Through analysing sub-surface, surface, and aerial data as well as politcal and historic information a very complex layering developed. The assignment was largely about remote sensing and analysis but it also gave an informed overview of how the complex layers intertwine. Abstracting different elements that existed on the layers gave focus to certain relationships and conflicts on and in the landscape. The main interest that emerged for me was the diverse and complex plant habitats that provided a cohesive bond along this line. The method of analysing layers informed the framework of the installation where the assembly of maps, models and 3D profiles help to enrich and inform users of this line. The installation is divided into three layers: 1. The roof which is composed of 32 profiles representing those that were taken 1km apart along the line. 2. A series of models give focus to certain areas that were of interest to me during my research. 3. A floor map at a scale of 1: 100
