One stated, ‘When I started I just ran the skidder, now I think about the impact on the soil and water. I’m making more effective decisions.’ All felt they better understood the importance of forest stewardship in logging. We are a key component in sustainable forest management and want to ensure that our loggers understand the importance of the decisions they make in ensuring a healthy forest. Canada-Alberta Job Grant What is it? The Canada-Alberta Job Grant is an employer-driven training program. Employers decide who gets training and what type of training is needed for new and existing employees. To qualify for funding, training must • be a minimum of 21 hours in length* • be completed within one year of the training start date • be provided by a third party • not replace prior training investments • result in a record of completion, a mark, a certificate or an industryrecognized credential Training can be completed online, on-site and in the classroom. Classes can be part-time or full-time. Northern Lakes College develops and maintains partnerships with regional businesses, industry and agencies in order to ensure program offerings reflect the training needs of northern Alberta. *In order to meet the 21-hour minimum, unrelated courses may be “bundled”.
For example: • Facilitation Skills – Developing Team Based Solutions (14 hours) • Clear and Concise Business Writing (6 hours) • Minute Taking (6 hours)
How does it benefit employers? This funding will provide employers with the opportunity to invest in the skill development of their current and future workforce, leading to increases in organizational productivity and retention.
What costs does it cover? The Canada-Alberta Job Grant program provides significant savings to employers looking to pursue training for their employees. Under the grant, employers will be required to cover a maximum of one third of the costs associated with direct training. Government contributions can cover a maximum of $10,000 per employee.
