Counselling Services Counsellors are available to provide students with career, personal, and educational counselling prior to enrollment and during their college experience. The counselling staff, in cooperation with instructional staff, also provide personal development and student skills workshops. Counsellors assist students in obtaining funding from internal and external resources such as the Student Finance Board, Alberta Works, and from various scholarships and bursaries. There A may be also be additional requirements, such as community involvement or leadership; the criteria will outline what is required. A prize is an award based on a specific outstanding accomplishment or achievement. This award may be cash, a plaque, a book, a medal or a gift.

Tutored Education Program (eSTEP)
Northern Lakes College works alongside the growing economy and understands the anticipated shortage for continuing care and pre-hospital care professionals. Our programs use stateof-the-art high-simulation fidelity mannequins, a training ambulance, and tools that students will use in the workforce. All this combined equates to an education that ensures you will graduate “career ready”. Community Health Promotion Certificate Community Health Promotion workers focus on health promotion and the prevention of injury, illness, disease, and disability. Foundational to their practice is the concept of applying community solutions to community challenges. Graduates will be able to identify the needs of individuals, families, groups, and communities. They will be able to initiate programs based on needs, community resources, and community strengths. PROGRAM DATES

Practical Nurse Diploma If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding career in health care, then becoming a Practical Nurse could be the ideal profession for you! Working with other health team members, you will provide nursing care to individuals in acute care hospitals, continuing care centres, community health settings, and primary care settings. Practical nursing is a self-regulating profession with a unique body of knowledge, standards of practice, its own code of ethics, clearly defined competencies, and a societal contract to provide safe, quality, holistic patient care.

Emergency Medical Responder As an Emergency Medical Responder, you will be responsible for trauma and medical patient care, scene surveying, oxygen therapy, patient stabilization, and much more. The EMR program is designed to help students receive employment in industry and part of emergency medical care in rural and remote areas. Upon completion of this program, graduates are eligible to write the EMR Alberta Provincial Registration Exam. Please note that there are additional costs related to the exam and licensing. Emergency Medical Technologist – Paramedic The Emergency Medical Technologist-Paramedic (EMT-P) program is designed to help students gain the entry-level knowledge and skills they need to practice emergency pre-hospital medical/trauma care and to function as a vital member of the health care team. Health Care Aides assist professional nurses in providing care to clients of all ages. They may work in acute care and continuing care settings, including long-term care, home care, and assisted living. Health Care Aide – Employed Student Tutored Education Program (eSTEP) If you are a non-certified Health Care Aide seeking certification, Northern Lakes College’s Health Care Aide eSTEP program is for you. The Employed Student Tutored Education program (eSTEP) is an online, distance-delivered program designed to provide employed students with the support they require to gain certification as a Health Care Aide. You will continue to gain work experience in the clinical setting, and that experience may be eligible for practicum credits. You will have one year to complete the program and will graduate with a Government of Alberta Health Care Aide Certificate. PROGRAM DATES

Social Work Diploma Our Social Work program looks at how to help people meet the demands of daily life. It looks at how social work seeks to improve people’s problem-solving and coping skills, and links them with systems that offer resources, services, and opportunities. It emphasizes the development of generalist knowledge, values, and skills to practice with individuals, families, communities, and organizations. Themes in this program include competency working in different cultures, recognizing and dealing with oppression, practice in northern and rural communities, and a focus on holistic practice. Crane & Hoisting Equipment Operator – Boom Truck Apprenticeship Are you interested in a diverse career that services industries such as mining, forestry, oil, and gas, as well as industrial, commercial, and residential construction? This program will prepare Apprentice Boom Truck Operators for the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training theory and practical examinations. Boom Truck Operators have endless career options. This program will prepare Apprentice Mobile Crane Operators for the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training theory and practical examinations. Mobile Crane Operators have endless career options. You could work as an employee, contractor, sub-contractor or even start your own business! Mobile Crane and Hoisting Equipment Operators service and operate the hoist and swing equipment used to move machinery, materials and other large objects. Mobile Crane Operators service and operate booms that are mounted on crawlers or wheeled frames as well as traveling, fixed or climbing type hoisting equipment with a vertical mast or tower and a jib. Introduction to Surveying NEW! The Introduction to Surveying program provides an overview of surveying theory and of basic survey field skills used in oilfield, forestry, construction, legal surveying and more. The program is intended to provide anyone considering surveying as a career with a solid knowledge of the fundamentals, and prepares students for future employment as a member of a survey crew. This program may be taken at a full-time pace, or part-time to fit in with other obligations. Introduction to Surveying consists of five core courses; four of the courses are delivered online and the fifth is a short face-to-face field course.

Aboriginal Teacher Education Program Start in September 2017 to become part of the next Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP). Complete two years of study in University Studies and finish years three and four with the University of Alberta (U of A) in a Northern Lakes Campus near you. ATEP is a collaborative degree program between the U of A’s Faculty of Education and Northern Lakes College. Through ATEP, students at Northern Lakes College campuses can complete the U of A’s Bachelor of Elementary (K-6) Education degree. University Studies at Northern Lakes College offers Year 1 and 2 of this program at any campus throughout the region. The U of A’s Faculty of Education offers Year 3 and 4, in specified Northern Lakes’ campuses, with courses delivered by instructors from the University of Alberta.
