W e l c o m e f ro m t h e p r i n c i pa l Dear Parents, The Kingsway Academy is an exciting place to be. In the last year, and through our transformation from Wallasey High School, we have experienced an unrivalled opportunity – an opportunity to change for the better. We now face the future with an incredible drive, incredible passion, support and the additional resources we need to ensure that our pupils experience the education they deserve and need for the future. The opportunities that young people experience at The Kingsway Academy ensure that they not only receive an outstanding academic curriculum, but that they are also fully prepared for the competitive real world of further education and employment. Parents choose this academy for its safe and secure environment. Pupils choose the academy for the huge range of opportunities both in and beyond the classroom – in music, drama, community service and sport. Choosing the right secondary school for your child is one of the biggest decisions you will make. I hope this prospectus will give you an insight into the life changing opportunities we are proud to offer our pupils. Please do take the time to join us at one of our Open Evenings, Open Days or drop in to one of our coffee mornings. This will give you the chance to meet myself and my senior team, our exceptional teaching and support teams and most importantly our pupils. Only then will you be able to truly experience the exciting, innovative, caring atmosphere that is so important to us. We look forward to meeting you and working with you over the coming years, Yours,
Amanda Cawood Principal, The Kingsway Academy 2
about us Located in the heart of the community, The Kingsway Academy opened in September 2014 with a vision of becoming the school of choice for families and carers on the Wirral. The academy provides a fully comprehensive education to pupils from Year 7 through to Year 13 from across the Wallasey area. The academy is a part of the Northern Schools Trust, a charitable organisation that works to transform the lives of children and young people through education. The Trust works in collaboration with a number of schools in the North West of England to provide a unique approach to education with equal commitment to vocational and academic success, supported by an outstanding pastoral programme. Together with the Northern Schools Trust, the academy has set high expectations and levels of accountability for staff leading to high levels of achievement and positive outcomes for all pupils. about us

c a r e a n d s u p p o rt At The Kingsway Academy we recognise that the personal development of pupils, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve. Our team work hard to ensure pupils are safe, happy and learn in a caring environment. The academy culture ensures that everyone is valued and respected. Pupils are rewarded for their effort and commitment to their studies through our Vivo reward system. The academy hosts and arranges a variety of activities which promote our values to our pupils, these include: visits to places of worship; food bank collections; participation in the Green Flag school initiative; a democratically elected Student Council; whole school assemblies and thought for the week activities exploring current issues. Our Pastoral Student Services Team includes a number of Learning Support Assistants, a Year 7 Transition Leader, Attendance Officers, Inclusion Leaders and Pupil Services Leaders who work together to ensure all pupils are safe and happy.

Behaviour for Learning Maintaining a positive learning environment is key for the success of all pupils. Central to this is a shared respect for the individual, the school environment and the value of education.
Joining Year 7 Many of our new pupils are already familiar with The Kingsway Academy through the work we do with local primary schools, including sports, cooking and curriculum support. We organise transition days, Getting to Know You evenings and curriculum visits in the run up to September to ensure pupils settle quickly. Parents attend a range of evenings prior to September and in the Autumn Term to ensure they are fully informed of progress and are able to discuss any issues of concern. We have an open door policy for parents and encourage you to contact us at any time with questions, ideas or concerns. You are also welcome to make an appointment to meet with the Principal and Senior Team or Governing Body at any point during the year.

The Governors of The Kingsway Academy take seriously their responsibility to provide the opportunity for pupils to have a balanced diet. They do this by giving a detailed specification to the caterer and insisting that high quality, low fat meals are on offer with a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables each day.
We can provide your child with a sandwich, piece of fresh fruit or healthy tray bake and a fresh fruit juice drink. There is also the opportunity for your child to ‘pick and mix’ from a variety of other options available to ‘tailor make’ their own packed lunch. We also offer hot meal menus which follow a 3 week cycle. These meals are nutritionally balanced so you can be assured that your child is receiving a healthy meal at lunchtime. Pupils may also bring a packed lunch if preferred. We can offer guidance on what should be included. We ask that no fizzy drinks or sweets be provided, and energy drinks are banned from the academy site. For more information about catering at The Kingsway Academy, please see the Chartwells Brochure and Sample Menu on our website.
