Love at First Sight

WRITTEN BY Y NGUYEN

My very first encounter ever with Key Club was during Raider Rush when I was just an incoming freshman. I remember walking through the hallways with tons of booths stacking up alongside each other and hearing from my friend that there was a club going around giving out ice cream. As a freshman, I was much more excited to get some ice cream, but I was greeted with something more when I first saw Key Club. I remember seeing the past Key Club members laughing and hanging out alongside each other, and students making jokes here and there and teasing one another. I was surprised because compared to the other booths that I visited, the members seemed to be having more fun and were very nice and social with the new students. I saw the community that was built within the club and how respectful the members were treating one another. From there, I knew that I wanted to join the club, the interactions the members showed in the booth made me realize I wanted to be a part of something like that.

I admit that my initial experience with Key Club during the pandemic wasn’t the best, but I still saw glimpses of how the officers treated each other and the members well. The meetings that we have were always fun and goofy. I still remember how Key Club’s former 20202021 president went the extra mile to drive over to my house and collect the fee so that money issues won’t be an obstacle for me to join the club. Truly, I fell in love with Key Club because of how amazing the members were and how the club makes it feel like everyone is heard and included in the events. I am always amazed to see the passion and love that the officers members were treating one another. From there, I knew that I wanted to join the club have for the club, and it makes me so happy to be in a club that is so easy for me to meet new people every time and start friendships. I truly feel that since I've joined I’ve been able to make new connections and meet amazing people. I love to be in a community that isn’t so strict and listens to the needs of its members, and those aspects of Key Club are the reasons why I’ve never regretted joining. I can’t wait for what else Key Club has in store for my last year here at North Garland High. .
