Summer Plans

WRITTEN BY ALVINA TRAN WRITTEN BY ALVINA TRAN

Because of the range of grade levels, I am very optimistic about this year’s board. Last year, the whole board were all seniors except for three sophomores. This year, we have sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The younger officers have shown lots of new energy which makes me excited to start planning for the 2022-2023 school year. This summer, I am planning to provide members with service hour opportunities for members that want to start earning their hours for the year early. I will also be searching for fundraising events so we can have a good start to the year. So far, we have a few things planned out for the summer. In June, there will be open spots to volunteer at North Texas Food Bank on two different days. Our club will also be participating in the melon dash. For the fundraisers, we are planning to have a car wash. We are still in the process of planning the socials for the members. Some of the officers suggested having a little social at a coffee shop. Having events and socials during the summer is a great way for members to bond with each other.

They don’t have to stress about school and can just have a fun time volunteering. I am planning to use this summer to help us prepare for next year. Since most of the officers are new on the board, it would be very helpful to get them used to the position. As one of the three new officers on last year's board, I wasn’t comfortable with my position until later on the year. Teaching the officers early on would help our club move more smoothly throughout the year. Keeping strict deadlines to finish tasks would help prevent the officers from slacking off at the end of the year.

By doing so, this will increase participation and also the effectiveness of volunteering events. I am planning to encourage the design team to create promotional flyers and keep our instagram active. Keeping the club and our social media active in the summer would help spread the word for new members to join in the fall.

Overall, this summer will keep our club on track to a great year. The officers will be keeping in contact with each other throughout the summer for monthly board meetings. I am excited for what's to come for North Garland Key Club.
