Keeping Up

WRITTEN BY YEN DO

As everyone is settling into the school environment again, keeping up with academics, clubs, and extracurriculars can be stressful, especially if you have signed up for a lot. At first, it may not seem like much, but as the year progresses, more events and assignments will stack on top of each other. And before you know it, all your time will be consumed by a packed schedule. I have tried to avoid biting off more than I can chew this year, but of course, unexpected things still happen, and I eventually find myself losing sleep and free time in order to meet deadlines and attend necessary events. Key Club this year has played a bigger role in my life than it did last year now that I am an officer. Not only am I attending events, but I am also taking more time out to plan for said events and other inner workings to keep the club successful. Hours have been spent with the board discussing our plans for the club and different ways to provide for these plans.

Aside from Key Club, I make sure to keep my academics and other extracurriculars (Orchestra, and Club Passport) in check as well.

Understanding what I am learning in academics is not much of a problem, however, finding time to do given assignments and turning them in on time has been a bit of a struggle. I put in a good amount of time practicing for orchestra and preparing for concerts to keep up with my classmates and not drag our group down. I am also an officer for Club Passport, but it is smaller than Key Club so there are fewer events to plan for. However, as we get further into the year, I imagine more events to happen with Club Passport. With a lot more going on in my school life this year

I find that keeping a planner has been a great help in planning and reminding me of upcoming events. My planner is not always quick activities. Key Club this year has played a bigger role in my life and accessible though, so I also keep a list of notes on my phone. Since I am always on my phone, it is actually a great way to keep track of things along with using sticky notes whenever I can not access my phone.

In order to effectively keep up and balance everything, some sleep and free time will naturally have to be sacrificed, but with the usage of reminders, notes, and a planner, it will be significantly easier. Using these three tools will allow you to plan ahead of time and fairly distribute your time between school, Key Club, and other extracurricular activies.
