Rylin, Ms. Cook and Nicholas The eagle is a symbol of Alert Bay because you see eagles everywhere, downtown, on the beach, and tourists take pictures of them. They are awesome looking birds, and there are more eagles than crows and ravens. Eagles always go to the beaches when people dump fish heads and fish guts there. This is the reason I chose an eagle for the symbol of Alert Bay.
This is why I think the thunderbird represents Alert Bay. The thunderbird was one of the first ‘Namgis people. The thunderbird saw a man struggling to lift the beam of the big house, so he transformed into a man and asked him if he could help. He transformed back into a thunderbird and lifted the heavy beams. That’s why the thunderbird represents the ‘Namgis. By Adrian Gordan-Valan

CHESLAKEES ELEMENTARY Exploration in Kindergarten
This year Cheslakees has three classes of full-day kindergarten. With 51 students and a small staff of four teachers, a child and youth care worker, a secretary and a principal, Cheslakees boasts a warm and close knit environment. This year the students have participated in community building activities such as making a peace-quilt, riding the Polar Express, frequent visits to Sunset Elementary and ice-skating. Huckleberry House and Strong Start share the Cheslakees building and contribute to the positive atmosphere and focus on early childhood education. “Celebrate Learning Together
