NORTH LANDS CREATIVE GLASS NEXUS FORUM
21ST- 23RD AUGUST
2020 Tickets £20
Our hot shop demo artists include Seattle glass artist, Dante Marioni, who will also be delivering the keynote speech; Dante continues to push the limits of his craft. Using innovative and complex cane patterns on flawlessly crafted forms, Marioni successfully draws our attention to the optics and elegance of his contemporary glass sculptures.
Inspired by aspects of popular culture, Fredrik Nielsen assimilates graffiti, music, videos and performance within his practice as a glass artist creating large-scale works that challenge existing hierarchies within art and contemporary craft.
Nicola Moretti fifth generation Murano master is a prolific designer who combines technical tradition with modernity exploring combination of computational design, 3D printing and fused glass mould casting using murrine.
Hannah Gibson will be speaking on her passion for sustainability and recycling, using 100% recycled glass and found objects. Whilst studying Geology at the University of Edinburgh Hannah became fascinated by the mineralogy and the reactions between various elements, metals and compounds. This led her towards a passion for the alchemy of glass.
Audrey Whitty is the vice-chair of the Irish Museums Association and joins North Lands Creative Board in 2020. Audrey will be a panel speaker looking at collecting today and what motivates museum collection policy and how do we plan for the future of glass collections. Active Archive Residency
North Lands Creative extends residency opportunities to professional artists, curators, craft makers and designers who want to develop their practice. The selection is highly competitive and we choose individuals who we believe will make the best use of our facilities and have a positive impact on the international glass community. To earn a spot in North Lands Creative artist residencies, artists must propose projects that align with our mission to support excellence and experimentation in the creative use of glass, influenced by the wild and dramatic landscape of Caithness. artistically, it is an opportunity to be immersed in an environment where there is sometimes no differentiation between sea and sky, where isolation is experi enced in all four directions. On a human level, the purity of the environment makes artists re-think and re-imagine their practice and brings much needed time to breathe, unplug and tap into the natural surroundings for inspiration. Participating artists’ proposals have in cluded those that would draw on or con sider the relationships between nature, art, and community. North Lands Creative Internships
Please complete and submit an Intern Application Form (forms and guidelines can be obtained by downloading from our website or requesting a copy by email info@northlandscreative.co.uk Please note the deadlines vary depending on the internship you are applying for. How to Apply “Some may find it hard travelling away from friends and family. The prospect of living in a remote town 700 miles north of home is somewhat daunting. However, the North Lands family made it clear, fast, that my friends and family were right there with me. I just hadn’t met them yet. I had the most amazing time at North Lands, working with world renowned artists, learning how a studio is run and of course developing skills. The summer internship has opened a barricade of opportunities for me including how to assist effectively in the hot shop and invites to work in studios across the country. “
