Who is my neighbor? Wednesday, June 8, 2016 Matthew 22:37-39. Neighbors. by Jack Did you know that downstairs the art people have been drawing dogs? But the twist is they get their inspiration from actual dogs that they are looking at. The dogs are 2 black labs named Cole and Maggie-Moo. Not only are they the cutest, but they’re so nice as well! They’re patient, quiet, obedient, and quite lazy. Despite that, they are fairly large dogs. At first glance, they may be scary but inside, they are very nice and cute too.

Our theme for the week: Who is my neighbor? “Matthew 22:37-39— Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength, and your neighbor as yourself.”

By Michael In the art room there was two dogs. The artists were drawing the dogs. The dogs were mostly black, but one had a lighter tail, a white stripe down her stomach, and white paws. They were both large and had black eyes and a brown collar with a brown leash. They had long tails and were very quiet. They also had a large mouth. The dogs sat on a table and the owner held them still. They dogs seemed to get along with the owner, and the owner also seemed relaxed.

By Tori Kincaid Full of enthusiasm, the Drama Group has been a truly collaborative effort. Using the theme of Love thy Neighbor, the troupe starts each evening coming up with real-life story ideas for the next day’s play. There are no bad ideas, and each actor is given the opportunity to give input and add to the story. Not to say, it’s always easy, but the group is quick to put their skills into action and be kind to each other as they express their ideas. On Monday and Tuesday night, the group wrote, practiced, and produced a two-part saga about a boy named “Asparagus”, played by Jameson. Asparagus is the Charlie Brown of Vacation Bible School and unfortunately is not always treated very well by his family and friends. That is, until God steps in to remind us all that loving your neighbor sometimes mean loving pesky brother’s named Asparagus. Lily said, “God created all of us and wants us to love everyone.” Eadie chose the Drama group because she loves to act and move around. There’s definitely, movement and excitement in the Drama group. At press, the topic was undecided for the final performance. I know we are all excited to see what they perform with us tonight. Continued on page 4...

By Emma Schlabach The VBS Yoga class, led by Tracey Hart, has been exploring how everyone is created in God’s image by engaging the body in calming and powerful movement this week in the Northminster playroom. Tracey began the session by leading Pastor Ruth, Keane, Jill de las Alas and Megan Hochbein through Sun Salutations, which help center the mind and the body with slow stretches and controlled breathing. By Wednesday, Keane helped lead a rotation of Sun Salutations. He stated the movements as well as telling the group when to inhale and exhale.Keane commented on how Yoga relaxes the body and is a way to connect and feel God’s calm through movement. Post Sun Salutations, the group addressed the theme of what it means to be created in God’s image. Keane commented on how he sees himself being created in God’s image. “God made us for a purpose, not to just roam around on the planet,” Keane said. Megan spoke of seeing God as a mirror and “modeling the way that we act and treat other people,” by what God would do. Through movement this week, the participants were able to center their minds and bodies to strengthen themselves in God’s image.

By Andrew This Thursday everyone is welcome to come at 7:30 on the porch, for ice cream! We will have vanilla ice cream with sprinkles and the popular Icey Pops. Once you eat your ice cream you can cool off even more in the water games. Remember to bring a swimsuit. If it is raining on Thursday then ice cream will be inside and sadly, there will be no water games, so cross your fingers for no rain.
