– Two Goats on the Lamb By Jack About 6:30 this evening, two goats were seen wandering in the North parking lot, wandering from grass to blooming trees, nibbling as they went. Photographers were called and followed them into neighboring yards. Soon a person with two fence posts showed up and seemed to be herding the goats back to their pen someplace west of Northminster. Lori Schlabach reported “the goats appeared to really be enjoying the bushes and shrubs in the Northminster yard.” Jude observed the goats jumping the caution tape in the parking lot. Jude liked that very much. At press time, the goats were still being trailed by their owner. This reporter noted how interesting it was that all the excitement brought out so many neighbors surrounding our church.

Who is my neighbor? Tuesday, June 7, 2016 Matthew 22:37-39. Family and friends. Our theme for the week: Who is my neighbor? “Matthew 22:37-39— Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength, and your neighbor as yourself.”

By Chad Kincaid “God of Wonders” gets a remix this week by the Music group at Vacation Bible School. With their homemade maracas shaking, the singers bring their musical passions to the song. Starting with the contemporary song “God of Wonders” they blend with the more traditional “Holy, Holy, Holy”. A solid rhythm output by all, keeps the singers on tempo. After some expert advice and teaching (a song bridge is just like a regular bridge, it connects two areas) from the Music leaders, the songs soon blend together in what sounds very much like harmony. The two-verse “God of Wonders” uses the chorus of “Holy, Holy, Holy”. Is it a round? Is it a re-mix? Is it a mashup? This reporter is not sure but will attest to the quality end product. “I like to sing!” proudly proclaims songstress Eva. Miss Eva goes on to say how much she loves the music of God and also the snacks. But this talented group is far from a one hit wonder. Other songs in their repertoire include “To the Least of These” with its haunting melody and the fan favorite “Kumbaya” with a hip new intro. The underlying message of these songs points to loving your neighbor or reaching out to someone who is a stranger. Every night they learn a bit more and add polish to their craft. All this work will be put to good use at the end of the week. It is rumored some of the songs might even be sung at Sunday’s worship service. Regardless of deserved laurels this group had a great time singing about God’s Love. A favorite excerpt of “God of Wonders”: Early in the morning I will celebrate the light And when I stumble into darkness I will call your name by night

By: Mehri Mohebbi (Mehrsa) Yesterday’s message: God created us in God’s image. Last night we learned when God says “love your neighbors”, it does not only apply to our own neighbors, but it also refers to the whole humanity. My task was to see the message of tonight through artistic creations of Arts Group. Tonight assignment was portraying their friends. Portrait literally refers to a realistic image of one’s face. My question was: would this method give us a true image of the portrayed person? What is the difference between true image and a real one? I started from these two pivotal questions and the goal is to decipher those during the week. My visit to Arts class began by having a nice conversation with two cute girls in the Arts class. I intended to realize how they explain their own realistic pieces of art. Kimberly had an interesting point of view; she emphasized her friend’s unique characteristics in portrait, such as her purple sun glasses that helps her to see the world as it is created. And Reilly saw Kimberley’s smile as something that can define Kimberly in the final portrait. After finishing the first assignment, the instructor explained the artistic rules of making portrait. While portraying, we depict a person as she/he is seen in our eyes, but what if the goals was to express God’s image? I believe tonight’s assignment was a great tool to see our friends through our own lens. Through this short conversation, I learned that our artistic works can present God’s image if we look beyond material layers of life. The way Reilly talked about her friend was a sign of such an insight. Reilly saw her friend’s smile as an identifier for her that communicates with others more powerfully than other parts of her face.

Thrive360 Emma Schlabach Bring Quarters to Fund Mission Project! Northminster will be participating in a mission project with Thrive360. Thrive360 is an international humanitarian aid organization that helps send packaged meals to address local hunger here in Indiana and malnourishment across the world. To fund this mission project, we will be collecting quarters starting this week during Vacation Bible School. The money will go to Thrive360 to provide Northminster with the necessary materials to create the food packages. During the Day of Caring this fall, members of the church will help bag and package the food here at Northminster so it can be delivered to those in need around the world as well as those who reside locally in Indiana.

By Jack Mrs. Bulloff wants everyone to know there will be an ice cream social Thursday evening at 7:30 in the Gathering Place. If it’s nice, the ice cream will be served outside on the patio.
