Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (BT W) is a public school that works. Built in 1922 as Dallas’ first African-American high school , BT W became the Arts Magnet High School in 1976, with a mission to teach a comprehensive curriculum in academics and the arts. Since then, the school has become renowned as a center for excellence in DISD and an award-winning protot ype for similar progr ams around the world.
