IN BUSTLING PHILIPSBURG, THE DUTCH SIDE’S CAPITAL, YOU’LL FIND A WIDE SELECTION OF RESTAURANTS CATERING TO MYRIAD TASTES.
AMAsterdam on Front Street and Amsterdam Cheese & Liquor Store at Dock Maarten (and in Simpson Bay) are great places to discover the Dutch side’s culinary links to The Netherlands. AMAsterdam is reminiscent of a bar tucked away in an Amsterdam alley, and Amsterdam Cheese is dedicated to its namesake, as well as fine spirits.
Another venue that celebrates Dutch and island cultures is the Dutch Blonde Beach Bar on the Boardwalk. The eatery, in the island’s only “windmill,” is the spot to enjoy island-crafted beers such as the restaurant’s namesake and savor Dutch pancakes, poffertjes and other delights.
After trekking around town, cool off at the Coffee Lounge on the Boardwalk or at their Front Street location. Sandwiches, salads and pastries are perfect accompaniments for frappes, flavored coffees and teas. When in Cole Bay, also stop in at Coffee Lounge 2.0 in Three Palm Plaza. The menu mirrors the one in town with some other yummy selections.
