Party Time

Two brothers from Cuba had one dream. Thanks to their hard work, determination and a little dash of luck, now you get to savor the most delicious, fresh-off-the-boat seafood.

By Gianna Nolte

In 1964 the first Garcia brother left his home and fish business in Cuba to begin a new life on the promised coastlines of Miami. Understanding that ambitious plans take time, both brothers were eventually reunited and spent their early days working their way up around the clock for local fishing companies. Through sacrifice, a sharp business sense and a little thriftiness, they managed to save enough money to open their very own fish market and wholesaler — the continuation of their successful venture that originated back in Cuba.

It took years of trial and error and learning the ropes of a competitive local industry, but eventually their fish market grew and transformed into what is now Garcia’s Seafood Grille & Fish Market. Now a Miami River institution for more than 50 years, this establishment offers guests an unbeatable waterfront view to go with fresher-than-life fish and seafood dishes. The key to Garcia’s culinary success stems from their boat-to-table approach. The restaurant’s very own fleet sets sail each morning and comes back with a variety of local favorites that guarantee every option on the menu to be exceptional. From the simplest offthe-grill Snapper Fillet to their Lobster Ravioli or Black Sea Bass with Shrimp in Cilantro Sauce, you will reminisce about the taste of each dish long after you’ve asked for the check. The late Anthony Bourdain himself could not resist the no-frills, straightforward deliciousness served here.

Stone crabs are among Garcia’s most sought-after items. In addition to their seasonal reign each year, these crabs possess the ability to regenerate; so restaurants like Garcia’s have mastered the method of properly harvesting the legs and then allowing the crab to return to sea in order to regrow the limb. The claws can range from medium to almost gigantic, and the Stone crabs at Garcia’s are a menu highlight you don’t want to miss.

guests feel right at home. Lovely potted plants, rustic furniture and earth tones make up this intimate space with its clean, healthy menu of organic juices and cleanses, açaí bowls and vegan items that beckon visitors to grab a Green Peace Juice or a Pink Dragon Smoothie and stay a while.
