By Vanessa Molina Santamaria

iami rolls out the welcome mat for your furry friends, so they don’t have to miss out on all the fun in the sun, sand, and surf. The area boasts plenty of beaches and outdoor spaces that welcome humans and their pups. We’ve compiled a list of the top beaches and parks where your canine companion can tag along without worry.

North Beach Oceanside Park

Located between 79th and 87th streets, Bark Beach at North Beach Oceanside Park is one of the most popular dog-friendly beaches. The green space features jogging trails, shaded picnic areas, and two enclosed dog runs where dogs can play off-leash. While the entire park is dogfriendly, the stretch of beach that welcomes off-leash dogs is located between 80th and 81st streets. From Friday to Sunday, between 1:30 and 5:30 p.m., the beach turns into a puppy paradise where your furry friend can run, splash, and play until they’re all tuckered out.

South Pointe Park

Head to South Pointe Park to take in the stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Downtown Miami skyline. Located at the southernmost end of South Beach, the waterfront park features scenic walking and biking trails, playgrounds, and an open grassy area where dogs are allowed to play off-leash between sunrise and 10 a.m. and again from 4:30 to 8 p.m. If you go off-leash, be sure to keep an eye on your pup because the area is not enclosed.

Lummus Park

Just off Ocean Drive in the heart of South Beach between 5th and 15th streets, you'll find Lummus Park – a picturesque urban beachfront park where you can enjoy reading a book, sunbathing, peoplewatching, or a workout with your pup by your side. It’s also a popular spot to catch the sunrise and take a leisurely stroll on the beachfront path. While the park is dog-friendly all day long, pups must be kept on a leash during their visit.

Miami Beachwalk

For the ultimate Miami Beach sightseeing experience, you can enjoy an on-leash stroll along the Miami Beachwalk, taking in the balmy weather and refreshing ocean breezes with your favorite four-legged friend. The fully-paved, 8-mile boardwalk has been extended and now runs along the entire length of Miami Beach — from South Pointe Park on the south to Surfside on the north end. Along the way, you may encounter cyclists, street performers, and various interesting characters.

Haulover Beach Park

Located north of Miami Beach, Haulover Beach Park is another local favorite. Here, you’ll find two enclosed dog parks: one for small dogs and one for large dogs, as well as a pup-accessible beach. The dog-friendly section of the beach is located between lifeguard towers 2 and 3, where dogs are allowed to play off-leash from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. So, if you're eager to let your pup roam free through the surf and sand, Haulover Beach Park is the place for you.

Hobie Island Beach Park

Located between Downtown Miami and Key Biscayne, just off the Rickenbacker Causeway, Hobie Island Beach Park is a popular beach for humans and their furry friends. Beachgoers head here to enjoy watersports, such as kayaking and paddleboarding while taking in magnificent views of the Miami skyline. Here, dogs are free to run around and enjoy the surf while making new pup friends. When visiting any of these dog-friendly areas, remember to bring waste bags to clean up after your dog and plenty of water for you and your furry friend, as Miami can get hot and humid.
