Tucker Hibbert #68 Team BY SCOTT A. SUMNER

Great Outdoors It is always fun for me to sit down with top snocross racer Tucker Hibbert in his race hauler at Duluth. This is what we talked about this year. The 2014 /2015 season was another excellent one for your team Tucker? “ Last year was a great year for us as we won the X Games, the series championship and most of the races so overall it was a very successful season for us. We had a lot fun. My Arctic Cat sled worked perfect the whole year so it was definitely good. This weekend is also going well so far. To achieve another championship we have to

“ The longer races allows my fitness, which I think is good, to come into play. Also my experience over the years allows me to pick the lines on the track over time, knowing how to manage the race without big mistakes.” “ I race motocross a little bit still not as much as before. I do ride mountain bikes to keep my body going all summer long. As we get closer to snocross season I start training specifically for snocross. It is just doing the same things I have done for many years. Have you been able to ride snowmobiles this season? “ Each year is a little bit different based on snow conditions and how much time we have to get ready. It is no different this year than the past. I rode in Colorado for a with me.” “ This year we have Dan Ebert as a mechanic who was a professional racer for 3 seasons and many years before that as an amateur, so a really experienced guy including mechanical. His dad Russ took me racing when I was younger as a semi pro and amateur so there is a lot of history with the family. Also Ashley Rambo is helping us with some marketing and dif-

be consistent and running up front in all the qualifiers and main events. So far we have done what we need to do and just have to keep it rolling.” The Amsoil Dominator race at Duluth has not always gone so well for you? “ I never have been really good on my first couple laps. It takes me time to get up to speed so that is part of it at the Dominator. It is a type of race that doesn’t suit my

few weeks before we were able to find snow here in Minnesota. We like to ride as early as we can.” You have been racing snocross for quite a long time now? “My first professional win was X Games in 2000 at age 15, so it has been 16 years since then. It was memorable for me as it was my first X Games, my first professional race and my dad was racing in the same race and competing against me for

ferent promotions. It is cool to have 2 new people. It keeps it fresh.” I just had a great interview with Blair Morgan here in Duluth! “ It is great to see Blair at the race track. I was able to see him a few years back at the Snowmobile Hall of Fame when he was inducted. It was fun to hang out at that event. It is great to see him at the race track. He seems happy and embracing the fans and all the people who have been waiting to see him back.”

style, not that I am not trying. I would love to win it but come up a little bit short every year. More laps allow me to pick better lines, to settle down and get comfortable. For some reason my mentality isn't to go wide open right at the start sometimes and that can be a good thing to avoid issues. I have trained myself over the years to be a little bit cautious in the first couple of laps and work my way into the race. The Dominator is a little short but maybe next year I will practice a little differently for it and work on my lap speeds.” Does a longer race of say 20 laps help you Tucker?

Page 2

ISOC seems to be doing really well with the races? “ They have done a great job of putting together a great race schedule, race tracks and promoting the sport with their Live Stream and TV coverage. Everything is going in a good direction. It is good to see the sport healthy and people fired up about racing and putting in the effort to make it really good.”

the first time.”

Your team is very important to your success Tucker? “ Our team is great, all the guys and gals. It is not just me out on the track. It takes so many people to get the race trailer ready, organize everything, testing and practice during the week. It is a big effort for everybody to come to the races and win. I definitely couldn’t do it without them. We have a blast doing it and are all really good friends or family so it is a really tight knit group of people who for the most part have been with me my whole career. It is important for me to have them

You seem to be very relaxed and calm Tucker? “ My faith is a big part of my whole life and racing is a big part of my life. I am getting older now and I don’t get too wound up about things anymore. Everything is going to work out in the end and the races seem to come and go and as long as I am happy I feel good. I have a great support group around me that help me do my job, have fun, be relaxed and enjoy life cause it is a good time and a lot of fun being at these races.”

www.slednews.com TUCKER HIBBERT SECURES POINTS LEAD WITH A WIN AT SNOCROSS SEASON OPENER Monster Energy / Arctic Cat / Ram Truck’s Tucker Hibbert secured the ISOC National Snocross Pro Open points championship lead with a win at the 2015-2016 season opener in Duluth, Minn. The nine-time champion put his experience to work with a solid win Saturday and heart-pumping race through the pack Sunday. In front of a maximum capacity crowd, Hibbert pulled off a big win Saturday night. A fifth-place start in the Pro Open final forced him to push hard in the opening laps on Spirit Mountain ski hill’s icy, rough track. Nine laps into he 20-lap, 15rider final, he made the move on leader no. 324 Kyle Palin and pulled away for the win. It marked his fifth consecutive Duluth National Pro Open victory. In Sunday’s final, Hibbert got a mid-pack start and spent the first half of the race searching for lines to make passes on the

tight track. By the time he moved into second place, front runner, no. 53 Kody Kamm had already stretched out a near a nine-second gap. Navigating through lapped traffic, he consistently chipped away at Kamm’s lead. The final lap, he latched onto Kamm’s rear bumper and it was a fight to the checkers with Hibbert finishing just 0.477 of a second shy of the win. After a weekend off, the ISOC National Snocross tour returns to action at Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, Minn. December 11-12. For more information on Hibbert and his schedule this winter, visit tucker-hibbert.com. Tucker Hibbert – #68 Monster Energy / Arctic Cat / Ram Truck “I feel like the weekend went really good. Obviously, we (the team) wanted to win both finals but it was a solid weekend.

Taking the win Saturday was an awesome to start the season. The hard charge to second place in Sunday’s race was good too. Overall, it was a successful weekend.” “I didn’t have a plan (to beat Kamm in Sunday’s final). I just focused on catching him. Once I got broke free of lappers and had a clear track in front of me, I closed the gap quick. I charged as hard as I could. It’s disappointing not to win but I’m

pumped on my performance.” “I’m really excited about the weekend off between now and the next race. We (the team) are going to be working super hard at the track and in shop to improve on our weaknesses. The goal is to show up at the next round ready to win and extend our points lead.”

Hentges Racing unveiled a newly designed Polaris Axis race chassis that proved to be very tough to tame all weekend long. Kody Kamm and Petter Narsa proved the training and conditioning in the off season is paying off. The newly paired teammates are working well together and becoming more comfortable on the new Polaris Axis snowmobiles every time they hit the track. On Saturday, Kody ran flawless qualifying

rounds to earn the #1 qualifier spot but made a mistake and jumped the gate for the final, “one of the bigger mistakes I’ve made in my career” says Kamm. Lining up in the back row, Kody fought his way back up to a very respectable 3rd place podium finish. New Hentges Racing rider Petter Narsa found his way to the final through an LCQ win and went on to a solid 9th place finish. Back with some vengeance on Sunday, Kamm ripped the holeshot and ran out to an 8 second lead by pounding out flawless lap after flawless lap! Kody quickly caught lap traffic which made him switch up lines but held off a hard charging Tucker Hibbert to capture his first Pro Open win of the season! Narsa continued to stay steady through the weekend and gain confidence in his new Polaris Axis chassis and finished with his second top 10 of the weekend. Kamm heads to the next round in Fargo on December 11-12 trailing reigning champ Tucker Hibbert by one point in the championship standings. Petter Narsa is currently 11th in a tight championship field and look to move up rapidly. SnoCross Icon Blair Morgan Back At The Track BY SCOTT A. SUMNER

Great Outdoors It was a real honour to sit down with Blair Morgan in a Ski Doo race trailer at the 2015 Amsoil Duluth Snocross. This was his first time back to Duluth in many years! How does it feel to be back at Spirit Mountain Blair? “ It has been seven years since I have been back to Duluth. It is kinda like I

never left. There is a lot of energy at Spirit Mountain. It is the first race of the year and everyone is itching to get out there and show what they got, the manufacturers improvements and what their sleds will be like.”

When did you first come to Duluth Blair? “My first race here was in 1997 with Arctic Cat sleds against riders like Kirk Hibbert, Brad Pake, Toni Haikonen. I raced here until 2008 with many Pro wins.”

What role are you playing here at Duluth? “I’m here with Ski Doo helping out some of their riders- mostly Tim Trembley. It has been really good. Tim found a good line in the Dominator race last night to win which was great.”

It was a very difficult accident for you at a Supercross race in Montreal? “ Supercross is always pretty tough and I only did 1 or 2 supercross races a year myself. It was kind of a freak accident, not even a big crash. I had hurt my back before in 2003 but this time really did some damage. It has been seven years this September since the accident.” What have you been doing since the accident Blair? “ I am doing a lot of stuff at home with the kids. It was near the end of my career anyway when I got hurt so I took some time off. Now I might be coming to all of these races. I was 32 at the time of the accident and am now 40 years old. I had been racing motocross since age 12 so

racing for 20 years. It was a good run. I have been following snocross racing, especially Tucker, and went to some motocross races. You can watch snocross now on Livestream which is great. There are many new faces out there I don’t know, just Tucker, Ross and a few other guys that I know.” Where do you live now Blair and what is a normal day like for you? “ I live in Prince Albert. A normal day is getting up with the kids to get to the school bus early, as we live out of the city. My son is in soccer. I managed his team and coach another soccer team 4 days a week. My daughter is in dance six times a week and goes to some other events in the Provincial series. We have a 1800 acre grain farm that my brother has taken over in our family.” “ I have a side by side and still ride sleds in the wintertime. If it is not too cold I go out once and while. The Hall of Fame Induction was fun with Tucker.” How are your progressing from your spinal cord injury? “ It took a long time, honestly it took five years after the accident for me to get better. You arms get really tired as you use them so much and there are other aches and pains. It takes a long time because you can’t really do too much physical activity as well that helps the healing process. I don’t do training now, people ask me that, but I have to save my arms because I have to use them everyday. My elbows sometime get a bit sore or you can tweak a wrist.” There have been some great advancements in spinal cord injuries? “ I have seen Paul Thacker with the electronics on walking. It seems cool. It is pretty tough to fix a spinal cord so something electronic would be the first way to walk, technologically wise. I don’t think biology wise will be too soon but it would be the ultimate.” So life is pretty good Blair? “ Life is alright, the kid's are doing really well. It is fun to come back to the races. I was actually a bit nervous hoping my rider Tim would do well. I do miss racing but I’ve just turned 40. I still ride snowmobiles around a bit but definitely had a nice career and took risks so am not really missing it a whole lot.” It was great to see and talk to Blair Morgan. He has contributed so much to the sport of snocross and has a lot to offer in the future. Best of luck in your new role Blair!

Levi Lavalle Loves Riding Snowmobiles BY SCOTT A. SUMNER

Great Outdoors One of my favourite people to talk to at the Amsoil Duluth Snocross is Levi Lavallee. The well spoken racer is iconic in the sport and has a great following. How are things going for the Lavallee Race team this season? “ The new Polaris race sled is awesome. Kyle Pallin has been riding it the last few weeks and he loves it. Instantly he said I think this thing is great. In the Dominator it worked well. Today we will see how it performs in a longer race.”

pound at home-some race sleds, some trail sleds and I got some mountain sleds this year just in case.” “ Snowmobiling is so much fun. Instantly when I was a kid you got out on the lake, cracked the throttle and there is nothing that accelerates like that, that feels like that. You can cut through the snow, through the trails, these different things. That is what got me. Then I started hitting these little jumps. I loved catching air and the feeling of being like a bird is incredible. Just the experience you have, the friendships and hanging out from stop to stop and talking about sleds. I love that and want to get back and do it more.

Are you enjoying being part of the ISOC series? “ It is awesome to see what they have done. The ISOC series is stronger than

ever and is a good thing. This is a sport that I love and want to be involved. It is easy to be a pat of this whole family.”

Do you enjoy deep snow riding Levi? “ The deep snow mountain riding is a new animal for me . The mountains takes it to a new level. I’ve been riding snowmobiles since I was 6 years old and I go out there and feel like a rookie! It pretty interesting to ride with those mountain guys like Chris Burandt and guys like him. They are phenomenal.”

Your rider line up has changed this year Levi? “We brought Kyle Pallin back who has been doing well. Now we have Zak Mason in Pro Lite division and are very excited to have him. He has done well and eager to get out there and rip. We will have a two man team and I will get out there messing around at X Games. I plan to do Freestyle and Snocross as well.” How did things go last year at the X Games? “ Last year at the X Games didn’t quite go to plan. I did Speed & Style and ended up fourth. Then in Long Jump I bruised my heals which took me out the rest of the event which was a bummer. I did get back riding at Cook City, Montana and did some riding in May which was pretty sweet. I needed it because it was a hard winter with little riding and I just wanted to ride and have fun. We also shot for our new web series “ Winteruption” for Polaris which is pretty fun.” Your race schedule will be limited this season? “ The guys coming up are young and eager to excel. I remember those days willing to do whatever it took. Now with running the race team and other things I do it is hard to put in the time you need to excel at snocross. I told myself years ago I’d race up until I think I can’t put forth the effort that is necessary to be out there. That time came and now it is on to the next step. For me that is getting back to just riding my sled for enjoyment, not to get faster or do knarly tricks.” Do you like just getting out there and trail riding sleds Levi? “ I enjoy riding with the different people. This is what started the passion for riding for me. I want to get out and ride some sleds. We have many sleds in the com-

Tim Tremblay holds on to win his third in a row AMSOIL Dominator Cup race! Thanksgiving weekend is usually a tradition of somewhat normal activities with family and friends for most people. But, if you are from the Northern Mid-West, Canada or anywhere there is snow white wintery bliss, it is the weekend the AMSOIL Championship Snocross season kicks off! The anticipation to hear the snap of the throttle, to see the roost of the snow, and feel the heart pounding excitement pulse through your veins as the sleds hit the course, is for many, a weekend that slams the adrenaline rush into high gear! Hell yeah, it’s time to race! AMSOIL DOMINATOR CUP Mother nature was onboard for opening race day with a beautiful Duluth,MN afternoon, granting the riders with clear skies and a cool 24 degrees, perfect weather for the AMSOIL Championship Snocross 2015-2016 season opener. It will be a grand payday to the Pro rider who captures the 5th Annual AMSOIL Dominator Cup race with a $10,000 deposit in their bank account. The top eight riders in points from 2014-2015 are automatically entered in the race while the rest of the field will need to qualify to take a spot on the final lineup. Only two riders have conquered the AMSOIL Dominator Cup challenge, Ross Martin winning the Inaugural and the 2nd annual cup race followed by Tim Tremblay taking honors the last two years. Sixteen riders are paired up and go head-

Page 6

to-head with the winner from each bracket moving on to the next round until there are only three riders left to race, the two top finishers and an LCQ rider all gunning for the top spot on the box, the big check and bragging rights to the AMSOIL Dominator Cup Trophy. AMSOIL DOMINATOR ROUND 1 – First off the line is Tucker Hibbert(68) matched up with Corey Watkinson(173), Tucker who has had some bad luck in the past with the AMSOIL Dominator Cup race, has no problem today and nails the holeshot going on to win and transfers to the next round. Back-to-back (20112012) winner Ross Martin (837) on the newly designed Polaris sled soars over the Air Force Fly Away jump and takes the early lead and the checkers for the transfer. Christian Brothers racing Logan Christian(43) rockets out of the hole riding hard to what looks like a sure win, carving hard into the FXR Turn, bobbles a bit, goes over and on his side and Lincoln Lemieux(13) is there to capitalize and take over the lead and holds on for Round 2. AMSOIL DOMINATOR ROUND 2 – Tucker Hibbert(68) who is paired up with Stale Eggen are first on deck, green flag drops and Tucker quickly moves into the lead and never looks back for the transfer. What looks to be the upset of the night David Joanis(115) challenges last year’s winner and almost comes out on top, however Tremblay digs deep, makes the pass to find a spot in the Semi. Final matchup of Round 2 is Kyle Pallin(324)

and Kody Kamm(53), grabbing the bars and hammering the throttle, Pallin looks like he is shot out of canon for the holeshot and onto the Air Force Fly Away jump into turn one, however Kody Kamm is on his heals as they approach the RAM Runaway and the AMSOIL Finish Line, Kamm catches some huge air trying for the lead but falls off short heading into the FXR Turn, extending the distance Pallin sees the checkers for the win. AMSOIL DOMINATOR SEMI – Veteran Snocross riders Ross “The Boss” Martin(837) and Tucker “T-Train” Hibbert(68) line up their skis, down goes the green flag and out of the hole launch both sleds drag racing to the Air Force Fly Away jump where Martin finds his way to the CAT Turn first. Tucker challenges early on, but falls back and out of a transfer spot for the final, but will have a final chance to make it to the show in the LCQ. The matchup of the night approaches the line, Tremblay on the inside, which has been the preferred line all night, but it is Pallin who lays down the big holeshot for the lead with a dominating performance winning the battle to move into the final. The field is set for the final, almost, up next is the LCQ where Tremblay grabs the win from Tucker and secures the spot on the back row for the final round. AMSOIL DOMINATOR FINAL – It is the final race of the night, the top contenders have earned their way to the big show, big prizes and bragging rights to kick off the 2015-2016 season. At the line it is Pallin and Martin with two time win-

ner Tim Tremblay in the runner up spot on the back row. Just when you think you have seen it all, think again because this is AMSOIL Championship Snocross Pro riders doing what they do best, digging in, finding that one thing that makes them put it all on the line and ride to victory, and well, getting a $10,000 paycheck for your efforts isn’t all bad either. Drop the green flag and see who takes the holeshot, it is Pallin with Martin just inches behind as they approach the Air Force Fly Away jump, and it’s…Tremblay from the back for the holeshot to the first turn, flying by the two best riders of the night, Tim Tremblay gets on the gas and rockets his number 11 sled to lead as he screams down the RAM Run Away towards the AMSOIL Finish line for lap one. Diving into the FXR Turn, toward the Air Force Fly Away jump out of turn one and around again never looking back, Tremblay takes both the checkers and the hardware for the night, and ten grand to sweeten the deal. From nearly losing in Round 2, a last ditch effort in the LCQ, to a dominating performance to take the win hands down, Tim Tremblay was on his game tonight when it mattered most. Standing tall on the box for the final podium of the night Tremblay explained “It was just crazy, I started from the back row, I knew I had my line coming up the hill because I had made a few mistakes earlier, it was just amazing to get the win from the back row.”

Amsoil ISOC Snocross Growing BY SCOTT A. SUMNER

Great Outdoors President Carl Schubitzke is pleased with the progress of the ISOC race series.

This track at Spirit Mountain looks amazing given our weather conditions Carl? “ We are very fortune to have this track at Spirit Mountain. About 9 days ago it was green grass with water standing, muddy and no snow to be seen. The cold front came in and Spirit mountain did an amazing job in 3 days making the track. They

Page 8

put through 7.9 million gallons of water in three days here to make snow. The pumps and electricity used is amazing and the capabilities impressive. For our own ISOC staff to do this track would take 17 days with that much water depending on weather. How is the ISOC racing series progressing? “ ISOC continues to grow each year which amazes me, it’s unbelievable. The people have been coming in steady to this race all day today. The series keeps getting bigger and better. We have more racers than ever which is fortunate.” “ I am very very luck to be in the position that I am in a sport that I love and I love racing and the people here. I bet I have been here at Duluth for 20 of the 24 years of the event either racing or now on the other side. It is interesting to see it from a different perspective. It is cool to see the sport grow.” We have some great sleds out there today? “The sleds are very good but in my eyes it all comes down to the rider, who is the determining factor.” You are getting more payouts for the

riders? “ We are getting higher purses. At the end of the day racing costs a lot of money to do. We are providing a customer service and fortunate to have these racers here with us spending money. They could be doing a lot of things. It is nice to give back and realistically I know it is marginal, as

these families are spending so much, but at least it is something. If there is more we can do we want to. The Pro Open team is expensive to operate and I think it is the same in all forms of racing. It is expensive but we love it!”
