Great Outdoors Despite rainy above freezing weather the 3rd annual Teen Challenge Sled for Eternity ride went off well on February 20, 2016 in ThunderBay. Rider numbers were down substantially from 160 to 80 but funds raised were up which made organizers happy. “ The 3rd Annual Teen Challenge very year gets better and raised more and more money for our ongoing operations. The weather was tough and we had two awesome charities with a ride on the same day this year. It just happened this way but next year we won’t be on the same day so we can both prosper,” said Robby Ahuja Director of Adult & teen Challenge Thunder Bay with head office in Winnipeg and women’s home in Brandon. “ Today we have raised just over $50,000 for Teen Challenge over $8000 more than last year. We don’t receive any government funding and our important car donation program with the price of steel down this year meant this is desperately needed money that God provides. The Thunder Bay people that come out seem very happy, are engaged, appreciate us and we appreciate them.” Next year Robby is looking for a bigger
and better event. Their next major fundraising event is a marathon golf tournament that will be held at Whitewater Golf Club June 12th. The golf event is different as it is a 36-golf marathon with a minimum pledge of $500 required and gets 40 golfers with more in the future
they hope. We are launching a new women’s ministry with a small group that meets every Thursday. We hope to have a Teen Challenge for women right here in Thunder Bay with the goal to have a home
for women here as well. Our women’s home in Brandon, Manitoba currently has a waiting list of over 1 year.,” said Robby.
Ontario to Expand Black Bear Hunting Pilot Province Committed to Sustainable Black Bear Management
Ontario is expanding the spring bear hunting pilot to gather further information to
assess concerns voiced by northern communities about human-bear conflicts, and to support economic growth and tourism in the north. The spring bear hunt pilot expansion will include: • Extending the pilot by an additional five years, through 2020 • All 88 wildlife management units that currently have a fall bear hunt • Non-resident hunters. Under the expanded pilot, it will still be illegal to hunt bear cubs and females with cubs. Anyone convicted of this offence could face a fine of up to $25,000 and up to one year imprisonment. In most cases, each licensed hunter will only be allowed to hunt one bear in each calendar year. Baiting of bears during all bear hunting seasons will be regulated to help address public safety concerns, including: • Bait must not be placed within 500 metres of a residence unless written permission is obtained from the residence's owner • Bait must not be placed within 500 metres of a public building • Bait must not be placed within 200 metres of a right of way for public vehicle traffic or a marked public recreational trail.
Quick Facts •
Ontario is home to a
healthy and sustainable black bear population with up to 105,000 black bears living in the province. • The spring bear hunt pilot will take place from May 1 through June 15, starting in 2016 and ending in 2020. • Currently across Canada, each province and territory with black bears has a spring and fall bear hunt except Nova Scotia, which only has a fall hunt. • For 2014 and 2015, Ontario held a two-year bear management pilot program in eight wildlife management units, all of which reported high levels of human-bear conflict. The hunt was open to Ontario residents from May 1 to June 15. Communities in and around these units include Timmins, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay.

Quotes “While science shows one of the biggest influences on the number of human-bear encounters is the availability of natural food sources, we also understand that bearrelated public concerns are very real for people living in northern and central Ontario and we are committed to assisting those communities to deal with this problem.” Bill Mauro Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry

BRP REVOLUTIONIZES SNOWMOBILING ONCE AGAIN WITH DEBUT OF ALL NEW REV PLATFORM • A brand-new REV Gen 4 platform designed for Ski-Doo Summit, MXZ and Renegade models sets new benchmark for effortless and precise riding • The new Rotax 850 ETEC engine is the most powerful 2stroke snowmobile engine in the industry and was developed specifically for the new REV platform Dallas, TX, February 23, 2016 - BRP (TSX:DOO), the number one snowmobile manufacturer in the world presented a new snowmobile platform and a new engine together for the first time in 20 years during its semi-annual dealer meeting in Dallas, Texas. The combination delivers Ski-Doo snowmobiles that are effortless with precise handling and thrilling power. This new platform/engine combination, available on 2017 Summit mountain, MXZ trail performance and Renegade
crossover models, pushes the limits of innovation and creativity to unmatched levels. “We revolutionized the snowmobile in 2003 with the original REV platform
by completely changing how consumers rode. Once again, we challenged ourselves to re-think a snowmobile from a blank sheet of paper by designing it around the rider to give them the best experience on snow,” said José Boisjoli, BRP’s president and
CEO. “The new Rotax 850 E-TEC engine is the most sophisticated snowmobile 2-stroke engine in the world, delivering an unmatched combination of power, responsiveness, fuel economy and oil economy, all in a light-
weight, unique and durable package. The project’s code name was ICE, for Incredible Consumer Experience, and I am confident that is exactly what these new vehicles will be for snowmobilers.” By specifically designing the engine and platform together, BRP is able to provide snowmobile riders with a host of benefits that redefine agility in deep snow and precision on the trails. The vehicle is extremely narrow and bodywork is minimized, giving the rider more room to maneuver. The additional room combined with new ergonomic improvements such as a bevelled tunnel, Ergo-Step side panels, open toe holds and a unique forward-adjustable riser allow riders to customize their riding position to their style. The vehicle’s weight is also centralized from side-to-side, giving snowmobilers even more control over the sled. Under the hood is the next generation of BRP’s E-TEC direct-injection technology in the form of the Rotax 850 ETEC 2-stroke engine. It unleashes 165
horsepower, 10 more than its predecessor. Riders will also appreciate its 30% quicker response, which instantly delivers the extra power. This new powerplant provides Ski-Doo sleds with the best power-to-weight ratio in the industry for both mountain and trail segments. Even with these improvements in performance, snowmobiles with this engine cover 40% more distance per litre of oil and maintain the same impressive fuel economy when compared to the Rotax 800R E-TEC engine.* More than 90 new accessories will be available for the new Ski-Doo models when they go on sale in the fall, adding function, features and style. The collection includes everything from windshields to GPS systems to several new items for customizing the fit to a rider’s style. Also of note are redesigned fuel caddy and tunnel bags using BRP’s exclusive and popular LinQ cargo system. The cargo bag can be attached to the top of the fuel can, so owners of shorter-tracked sleds can now attach both items, a feature requested by consumers. Much of the Ski-Doo riding gear line was also redesigned for 2017 with dynamic color offerings and improved fit and style. Full details on the 2017 Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Spring Fever promotion and spring tours are available at the all-new www.ski-doo.com. * Based on internal BRP testing of MXZ X 850 E-TEC model.
