The Gospels are on show in Durham from 1 July to 30 September 2013 alongside stunning Anglo-Saxon treasures in a contemporary exhibition of the North East's most enduring story. From July until September Northumberland will be celebrating its role in the story of Cuthbert with a variety of Gospels inspired events on Holy Island and across the county. Find out more at events.northumberland.gov.uk Information on the Durham Exhibition and regional activity can be found at www.lindisfarnegospels.com

The events which followed culminated in the union of the English and Scottish crowns in 1603. During 2013 there will be commemoration events including plays, living history, exhibitions, music, archaeology, genealogy and many more. Flodden 500: I’ll Chain My Heart Forever More September A tale of two border families whose men are gone to fight at Flodden. Suzie Doncaster (storyteller) and Poppy Holden (singer) together with fiddle and harp, present an evening to mark the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden, telling the story of women left at home in September 1513 to manage two neighbouring farms and defend themselves against marauders. The ancient ballads fit the narrative to illustrate and enhance the story, and Poppy has also written a new song. A CD of the music will be launched at the start of the September tour in the Borders. www.insightandgear.com
