also visit... …one of our wonderful market towns... We've done our best to include something for everyone, however there is a lot more to see in Northumberland! The county has many market towns, each offering their own diverse mix of shopping, eating out and heritage. Why not combine your trip to Paxton, Chillingham, Etal or Holy Island with a visit to the beautiful walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed? The Elizabethan town walls are an attraction in their own right. Nearby, the picturesque town of Wooler, popular with walkers and day trippers, nestles in the Cheviot Hills.
Hexham and Haltwhistle, in the heart of Hadrian's Wall country, provide an ideal stopping off point for visiting the World Heritage Site. The thriving market towns of Alnwick and Morpeth, in the centre of the county, are both extremely popular shopping locations. The coastal towns of Amble and Seahouses are the perfect location for exploring our world famous coast, including Coquet Island and the Farne Islands. To find out more about these and many other towns and villages across the county go to: www.visitnorthumberland.com
Also‌ over the summer months make sure you don't miss... The Farne Islands are a National Nature Reserve, home to a world famous colony of seabirds just a few miles off the Northumberland Coast. Explore the islands on one of the excellent guided boat trips from Seahouses.
