Supporting Your Students
We know that it has been a difficult journey for pupils over the past few years, and the impact has been significant.
Northumbria University is committed to supporting all individuals to achieve their ambitions. We have a range of schemes to make sure as many individuals as possible are given an opportunity to study at our University regardless of personal circumstances or background.
Contextual Offers
We have expanded our contextual offer approach, which means that when reviewing an application, we consider both academic information alongside contextual information to allow our admissions team to fully understand an applicant’s true potential. Students who are eligible for a contextual offer, would be made a reduced UCAS tariff point offer which is 8 points less than our standard entry criteria, for example, a 120 point offer would become a 112 point offer. A full list of eligibility criteria for contextual offers can be found on our website.
Aspirational Offers
When reviewing applications, we use predicted grades as one of the criteria we consider when making offers but we know that these are not always a reflection of true potential.
In response to this, we will typically make standard tariff offers wherever possible to applicants whose predicted grades are equivalent to up to two grades less than our standard tariff entry criteria. Our offers will always be at the standard level (excluding any contextual offer amendments).
For more information on our entry requirements and associated admissions, please visit northumbria.ac.uk/entryrequirementsinfo
Dual Offer
For the majority of our offers for undergraduate courses we will make a Dual Offer if there is an appropriate extended degree route including a foundation programme. A Dual Offer is an offer for the degree programme which also includes a reserved place offer for the same degree programme extended including the foundation programme (assuming the conditions of the extended route are met). This means that when applicants receive their exam results, if they have obtained results below our offer requirements but achieved the foundation entry criteria, we will automatically change offers to the extended degree route at confirmation (when we receive results).
Extenuating Circumstances
We know that sometimes a circumstance outside a student’s control can impact their study. Please submit details of the circumstances in the extenuating circumstances part of the student’s UCAS application form. Alternatively if the circumstances occur after they have submitted their UCAS form you should send details on letterhead to ad.applicantservices@ northumbria.ac.uk including their full name, UCAS number and any relevant details.
