Why International Business Management at Northumbria?  The course attracts students from around the world, creating a global perspective within the classroom.  This course is open to applicants from any background, and will give you the edge with transnational organisations, in recruitment and with opportunities for promotion.  Use business software including ARIS Express Business Process Modelling, various SAS applications, Microsoft Project, specialist decisionmaking software, and Google Analytics.


International Business Management at Northumbria  Focus on the global business environment, with an emphasis on managing international organisations, and paying special attention to the cultural challenges of extending operations across multiple countries.  Gain a clear understanding of global business, from both a theoretical and practical perspective – this will give you an edge with transnational organisations.  You’ll be developed as a leader and manager while expanding upon your research skills.  Course content is designed by experts in International Business Management.  Students go on to have successful careers in any number of global industries, politics and research.

Ways to Study 1 Year Full Time  Based at City Campus in Newcastle City Centre. 2 Years Full Time with Advanced Practice  First year based at City Campus in Newcastle City Centre.  Advanced practice in second year – chosen by student. 2 Years Full Time with Study Abroad  First year based at City Campus in Newcastle City Centre.  Study abroad in second year* – chosen by student. *Subject to availability and government guidance during Covid-19.


Advanced Practice - Two Year Study Options  Advanced Practice with investigative consultancy project routes are similar to many of our 1-Year MSc with consultancy project routes. The 2-year Advanced practice courses spend more dedicated time in the Business Clinic, reflected in the total assessment input for the two 60 credit modules. Students on the two year pathway will choose two modules from:  Applied Management Work Investigation  Masters’ Study abroad*  Business Clinic PG Group Consultancy Project  The Newcastle Business School Masters Dissertation  Masters’ Internship *Subject to availability and government guidance during Covid-19.


Teaching and Assessment Teaching  The course is split into modules worth 20 credits, with dissertation or final project worth 60 credits.  You will study 180 credits in total.  Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. As this is a master’s course there is a major element of independent learning and self-motivated reflection.  Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that helps ensure a successful learning journey. We make sure that extensive feedback, from both tutors and peers, is built into the course.  You will be taught through lectures, seminars and interactive workshops. Teaching and Assessment Assessment  Our assessment strategy is based on our understanding that everyone has different needs, strengths and enthusiasms.  Assessment methods include assignments, presentations, exams.  You’ll also be required to submit a 15,000 word, subject-specific dissertation, applying research skills and methodologies.  You will have the option to undertake a Masters’ consultancy project within the Business Clinic as an alternative to the dissertation.  You can have anywhere between one and three assignments per module and this will be a combination of written reports, exams, portfolios, infographics, group presentations and a unique business simulation.

Research Rich Business School  NBS is a vibrant and research rich Business School with a history of applied research demonstrating strong engagement with the local economy, public and voluntary sectors.  Current Research Projects include:  NESTA Innovation growth Lab Programme.  Co-investigators on NEMOG project, funded by the EPSRC (£1.2 million) which investigates the potential of digital games for economies and societies (www.nemog.org).  Wind Farms: saving the planet while ruining the landscape? Commissioned by the Institute of Local Governance.


Change Direction  You probably chose your undergraduate degree when you were 17 years old. Have you changed since then? Have your career aspirations changed too?  The hard work you put into your first degree has helped you develop a vast range of valuable skills. By combining them with a Masters in a completely new subject, you can open the door to a career that suits who you are today.  The first semester of this course offers a broad overview of the contexts and complexities of International Business Management, tailored to the appropriate level of study.


Entry Requirements  Applicants should normally have a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in any subject. However, applicants without a degree will be considered.  International qualifications - if you have studied a non-UK qualification, you can see how your qualifications compare to the standard entry criteria, by selecting the country that you received the qualification in from our country pages at www.northumbria.ac.uk/yourcountry.  English language requirements - International applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent*). * The university accepts many UK and International Qualifications in place of IELTS. Business Facilities  Taught in City Campus East 1, a multiple award-winning building which is home to Business and Law. Based in Newcastle City Centre.  4th floor of City Campus East contains our dedicated postgraduate suite with teaching rooms, IT labs and a comfortable lounge area where you can work in groups or independently.  The Business Clinic enables our students to participate in a ‘consultancy firm’ to provide advice for our region’s businesses.
