 You will delve into specialist areas such as econometrics & forecasting, financial markets & institutions, and investments & risk management, and develop advanced analytical and evaluative skills.  You can either progress within academia by continuing onto a PhD, or seek a position within the international financial sector as quantitative research analyst, where they are in high demand.  The course is designed to build on the transferable skills important for employment in the areas of business finance, banking, financial markets, investment and quantitative finance research.

Advanced Practice -Two Year Study Options  Advanced Practice with investigative consultancy project routes are similar to many of our 1-Year MSc with consultancy project routes. The 2-year Advanced practice courses spend more dedicated time in the Business Clinic, reflected on the total assessment input for the two 60 credit modules. Students on the two year pathway will choose two modules from:  Applied Management Work Investigation  Masters’ Study abroad*  Business Clinic PG Group Consultancy Project  The Newcastle Business School Masters Dissertation  Masters’ Internship

Teaching and Assessment Teaching  Courses are split into modules worth 20 or 60 credits.  You study for 180 credits per year.  You will learn via lectures, seminars and workshops (interactive, practical sessions).  The course will equip you with the specialised skills required to implement finance and econometric theory in areas such as quantitative analysis, financial research, international financial markets and institutions, investment, derivatives and risk management.  Self directed study time varies depending on each module. Teaching and Assessment Assessment Assessment forms an integral part of your learning experience. You will be assessed through essays, presentations and exams. You can choose to complete a 15,000 word dissertation. This is supported by an academic supervisor with relevant expertise in the subject. Alternatively you could complete a Masters’ Consultancy Project. This would give you a thorough introduction to essential management concepts, tools, functions and disciplines enabling you to demonstrate relevant knowledge and understanding of organisations, the external context in which they operate and how they are managed Usually there are four exams and six assignments, but this may change depending on the Covid-19 situation.

Collaborative, Relevant Research  Research is headed by a team of leading international professors, academic staff and doctoral research students.  This allows for the development of multidisciplinary working across Newcastle Business School as well as capitalising upon our national and international university, industry and public sector collaborations.


Entry Requirements  Applicants should normally have a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in a relevant discipline, such as accounting, finance, mathematics or engineering, or a discipline with a quantitative element.  International qualifications - if you have studied a non-UK qualification, you can see how your qualifications compare to the standard entry criteria, by selecting the country that you received the qualification in from our country pages at www.northumbria.ac.uk/yourcountry.  English language requirements - International applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent*). * The university accepts many UK and International Qualifications in place of IELTS. This hands-on experience gives you access to real-time data as well as historical financial news and information. We are one of only a handful of universities with this facility.

Technology is woven into the course via statistical and econometric packages such as E-Views and Stata along with live Bloomberg terminals providing live economic and financial data, to increase your skill set and enhance the experiential learning elements of the course.
