Why Marketing at Northumbria?  In an age where marketing budgets are rising but consumers are growing more resistant to advertising, our MSc Marketing course will prepare you for the modern challenges of the marketing profession.  The course is built around the requirements of two significant professional bodies; the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Marketing Research Society (MRS), allowing you to demonstrate your learning in line with professional benchmarks within the marketing field.  This course provides professional value and intellectual challenge and encourages critical thinking, creative problem solving and effective communication in what is a fast pace, evolving industry.
Marketing at Northumbria Marketing MSc is a programme that helps developing creativity and adaptability as a marketer. Understanding and application of theory to resolve challenges to contemporary marketing. You will learn through a stimulating mix of lectures, seminars and workshops based around real life business case studies. You will undertake a team-building residential event early in the programme and an intensive team-based business simulation event later on.* Opportunities to gain insight from industry professionals, with conferences and research events regularly taking place, guest lectures and business field trips, there’s a strong emphasis on current real world issues.* In semester 2, you will have the chance to select marketing modules in areas such as; consumption, global marketplaces and branding, allowing you to focus on an area of interest or expertise. *Subject to availability and government guidance during Covid-19.

Advanced Practice Advanced Practice with investigative consultancy project routes are similar to many of our 1-Year MSc with consultancy project routes. The 2-year Advanced Practice course spends more dedicated time in the Business Clinic, reflected on the total assessment input for the two 60 credit modules. Ways to Study 1 Year Full Time Based at City Campus in Newcastle City Centre.
2 Years Full Time with Advanced Practice First year based at City Campus in Newcastle City Centre. Advanced practice in second year – chosen by student.

Teaching and Assessment Teaching Courses are split into modules worth 20 or 60 credits. Study for 180 credits per year. Lectures (large group teaching), seminars (small group discussions), workshops (interactive, practical sessions) and dissertations (large scale research project). 1/2 hr lectures and 1/2 hr seminars per week per module. 8-9 Hours of self-directed study per week.
Teaching and Assessment Assessment Develop assessment work in a variety of formats from business reports to infographics, providing the skills needed to communicate your ideas to employers. Complete a traditional marketing dissertation on an area of your choosing, or work in teams at our award-winning Business Clinic providing professional guidance to a real organisation on existing business problems. Usually one mid-semester assessment and one end-ofsemester assessment.

Dr Prabash Edirisingha Prabash is the programme leader for MSc Marketing and he teaches consumer behaviour and marketing communications. His research investigates areas of consumer culture theory that include family, gender, and ethnic consumption.
Associate Professor David Hart David’s research interests are in relationship marketing, specifically investigating customer loyalty and complaint behaviour. He is also interested in sports marketing and not for profit sector. He is the Associate Head of department for Marketing and Operations Systems.
Dr Chrysostomous Apostolidis Tommy teaches marketing subjects such as strategic marketing contemporary issues in consumer behaviour. His research investigates areas of food marketing, social marketing, and sustainable consumer behaviour.
World Leading Marketing Research Our staff are actively pushing at the frontiers of knowledge. Over 40% of our publication outputs and 60% of our impact case studies have been assessed as internationally excellent or world leading (REF 2014).
Change Direction You probably chose your undergraduate degree when you were 17 years old. Have you changed since then? Have your career aspirations changed too? By combining them with a Masters in a completely new subject, you can open the door to a career that suits who you are today. Marketing is a field of many disciplines (e.g. economics, management, psychology, social sciences, anthropology, etc.). Students from many backgrounds join the MSc Marketing programme. These students realise that it is actually valuable to draw from their previous experiences and background. Other students also immensely benefit from having a mix of backgrounds within the programme as it brings many different points of view.
Entry Requirements for 2021 Applicants should normally have a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in any subject. However, applicants without a degree will be considered.
