Why Business with… at Northumbria? Our Business with… programmes are designed to complement your undergraduate studies and give you a head start in applying for jobs and graduate roles with a range of employers within the fast-paced world of international business. Each course consists of a set of core modules with additional, topical modules that focus on key aspects of your chosen subject area. Each programme allows you to choose between completing a Masters Dissertation, which will strengthen your research skills and ability to critically analyse, undertake a Management Enquiry project which provides you with the opportunity to engage in problem based learning through engaging with managers to question key practice based issues, or to take part in a Consultancy Project to enhance your individual effectiveness and employability skills. All courses within this area are covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School, which was ‘Business School of the Year’ at The Times Higher Education Awards 2015.

Business with Business Analytics This programme is based on the module framework shown on the previous slide but with the addition of: Marketing Metrics and Analysis (20 Credits) Business Intelligence (20 Credits) You will study 180 credits in total. This course encourages you to explore the latest techniques for analysing ‘big data’ to improve an organisation’s decision making. Learn the principles of website evaluation; analyse web data, measure the effectiveness of web marketing and improve user experience. Throughout the course there is a focus on self-development and employability.
Business with Entrepreneurship This programme is based on the module framework for Business with.. courses but with the addition of: Contemporary Issues in Entrepreneurship (20 Credits) Entrepreneurship – Context, Process and Practice (20 Credits) You will study 180 credits in total. Students critically examine contemporary issues effecting entrepreneurship – topics such as strategic entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial philanthropy are all on the curriculum. Students learn about entrepreneurship as a process including ideation, pitching and presenting, business planning, resource acquisition etc. Students are supported in exploring, identifying and planning their own business ideas.
Business with Human Resource Management This programme is based on the module framework for Business with… courses but with the addition of: HRM in Practice (20 Credits) Organisational Behaviour in Practice (20 Credits) You will study 180 credits in total. Understand how HRM can add value and enhance organisational effectiveness and sustainability, by exploring the effective integration of HRM with broader business and HR strategies. Challenge and critique organisational practice and the theories, models and frameworks underpinning management, business and organisation. Identify strategies for managing the shared and divergent interests of key stakeholders in HRM.
Business with International Management This programme is based on the module framework for Business with... courses but with the addition of: Global Consumers and Marketplaces (20 Credits) Contemporary Issues in Consumer Behaviour (20 Credits) You will study 180 credits in total. Explore how marketing practices can be applied to global business, and develop an appreciation of the complexities of marketing across nations. Consider the range of decisions that need to be made within an international company including queries over product, pricing, marketing communications and branding. Appreciating vital issues in today’s consumer culture, looking at ethical & sustainable marketing practices and ever changing consumer behaviour.
Business with Logistics and Supply Chain Management This programme is based on the module framework for Business with… courses but with the addition of: Strategic Procurement and Logistics (20 Credits) Sustainable Supply Chain Management and Risk (20 Credits)
You will study 180 credits in total. Discover processes that add value through the production and delivery of services and products in a businesses supply chain, and the tools needed to manage these processes effectively. Understand more about strategic procurement and how to manage the sustainability, quality and risks of supply chains and develop methods of good practice that will make you appeal to any relevant employer.
Two year programmes All of our Business with… programmes can be completed in one year and will lead you right into whatever it is you wish to do after graduation. If you want to give yourself an extra edge you might consider a two year course and choosing one of the following options in your second year: Masters' Internship* (60 Credits) Spend a semester outside of the University on an Internship at an external organisation. This will enable you to use the skills that you have learned so far in a “real-world” business environment. Masters' Study Abroad* (60 Credits) We have exchange agreements with universities all over the world. Spend a semester at one of these partners, continuing your studies in English but in a new cultural and learning environment. Please note that this option may require you to obtain a visa for study in the other country. *Subject to availability and government guidance during Covid-19.
Two year programmes Business Clinic PG Group Consultancy Project (60 Credits) This work-based experience will last the length of the semester and involve the examination of a complex organisational problem or commercial opportunity. By choosing this you will enhance your individual skills, knowledge, effectiveness and employability by locating learning and development within a work-based context.
Applied Management Work Investigation (60 Credits) Undertake a group consultancy project within the Business Clinic during the first semester of your second year of Masters’ study. Through your work-based experience, you will develop ability as a problem solver with valued investigative, theoretical and practical business skills.
The Newcastle Business School Masters Dissertation (60 Credits) Gain an understanding of the academic skills that are required to produce a Masters Dissertation. By the end of the module you will have written a 3000 word dissertation proposal and a 15000 word Masters dissertation.
Two year programmes The Newcastle Business School Masters Dissertation (60 Credits)  Gain an understanding of the academic skills that are required to produce a Masters Dissertation. By the end of the module you will have written a 3000 word dissertation proposal and a 15000 word Masters dissertation. The Newcastle Business School Masters Management Enquiry (60 credits)  Provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate an authentic engagement with managers and/or professionals in your discipline and to integrate the knowledge you have developed during your programme to explore the theory in practice. The learning on this module is experiential and problem based where the focus is on you discovering, probing and questioning key practice-based issues. The assessed submission is a 15000 word report.
Teaching and Assessment Teaching Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including lectures, seminars and workshops in IT Labs. As this is a master’s course there is a major element of independent learning and self-motivated reflection. Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that helps ensure a successful learning journey. We make sure that extensive feedback, from both tutors and peers, is built into the course. You are also supported in your journey via an e-learning portal containing the module’s resources, reading lists, teaching materials, recorded lectures etc. You can expect all the lectures, seminars and workshops to add up to approximately 12-16 hours of teaching per week. If you choose to study for the Academic Skills module then this will be 2 hours extra per week.
Teaching and Assessment Assessment Our assessment strategy is based on our understanding that everyone has different needs, strengths and enthusiasms. Assessment is based on course work and our methods will include: - Essays - Reports - Group work - Presentations - Either a master’s dissertation or consultancy project
The number of exams will depend on which pathway you choose, but our overall strategy is to reduce assessment by examination to a minimum. Therefore you might not have any exams. Assessment can happen during the semester in class or during the assessment periods which are in January and May.
The Programme Team Dr Gillian Forster Director of Education Principal Lecturer in Organisation and HRM Gillian joined NBS following a number of years working in a variety of roles in the design profession, including events management, training and development, corporate sponsorship and public relations. Her main research interests are in the field of organisation studies, in particular organisation culture and international/cross-cultural management together with pedagogical developments relating to international students. Gillian has examined doctorates on trust, leadership in education, and emotional regulation.
Dr Imane el Hakimi Programme Leaer MSc Business with HRM Senior Lecturer in LHRM Coming from a family business background, with a mixed and rich industrial experience for more than 5 years and over 4 years teaching experience, her research interests focus on cross-cultural studies, IHRM, Trust, Arab management practices and family business.

Senior Lecturer in Strategy
Paul has experience of marketing and management in several multinational corporations in the UK and overseas and the development of actual and potential smaller enterprises. His broad research interests are in marketing and education. More focussed interests include power asymmetry between large and smaller enterprises. He has involvement with professional bodies such as the Academy of Marketing and the Market Research Society.
Sanjay teaches courses in strategy, international business, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial finance, social cause venturing as well as supervising doctoral studies in entrepreneurship and banking. Before joining academia Sanjay held senior management positions in banking, venture capital and consulting, last as Country Director for Corporate Finance in a big four consulting firm.
The Programme Team Dr. Mahmoud Abdelrahman Director of Advanced Practice Senior Lecturer of Information Management Mahmoud has 20 years of academic experience including leadership, teaching, research projects, consultancy and supervising several PhD, DBA, MBA, MSc and UG projects at different universities. He will guide you regarding your Advanced Practice Options in the 2nd year of your MSc. 2 Years programme. He will follow up with you your Internships and Study Abroad assignments in the 2nd year of your MSc. 2 Years programme.

Team-building and Leadership Residential

The Business Clinic Based on a real business issue, students will work on a consultancy project for a live client. Students strive to make strategic recommendations through a report and presentation. This module allows students to develop practical based skills, which are highly transferable into the world of work. Students also get the chance to work in The Business Clinic’s newly renovated building, which provides Business Clinic students dedicated access to collaborative working space.
