Our work in this area is helping us to understand how regions such as Antarctica, Greenland and the Himalayas are responding to rapid climate warming. Degree Apprenticeships
Don’t let anything stand in your way.
Unlock your potential. Gain real experience.
The majority of our undergraduate programmes have two entry points; a three year route and a four year route (or four and five years with a placement or study abroad year). Your access point depends on the qualifications you have achieved on entry. If you accept Northumbria and miss the tariff points for our three year route, you will be automatically offered a place on the four year route for your programme. If you have not studied the qualifications we require for entry, our four year routes have greater flexibility and can assist you to change direction. Our four year routes include a preparatory foundation year to help you successfully transition to university life, and achieve the academic standards needed to continue on your degree.
Northumbria pioneered the use of foundation years in Higher Education, because we believe in giving you every opportunity to do what you love. You’ll gain an understanding of your chosen subject area, develop the study skills to succeed at degree level, and experience student life here at Northumbria. Offering three and four year routes for our programmes allows us to give more opportunity to students to access Northumbria regardless of their background, and to support more students towards their dream programme and future career. It’s time to take on a new challenge.
Our degree apprenticeships are more than a learning programme; they are a partnership. Designed with the employee in mind, our degree apprenticeships bring together cutting-edge research in your chosen subject area, and the practical skills that employers need. Northumbria was one of the first universities to offer government-supported degree apprenticeships. We co-design our apprenticeships directly with employers so that you can build the knowledge that will be valuable in your career. By spending your time between the workplace and flexible university study, you’ll be able to apply what you learn in the lecture theatre directly to your job. With a degree apprenticeship, you’ll gain both a degree and real working experience. See northumbria.ac.uk/degreeapprenticeships for more details and the latest vacancies.

Before staring here I never really knew how to think and write critically but that has completely changed.” Aisha Robinson BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing
At Northumbria, we will prepare you for a rewarding, but challenging role in the health sector. We offer undergraduate nursing programmes in Adult, Child, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Nursing and in Midwifery, which lead to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. We currently rank 12th in the Guardian League table for Nursing and Midwifery (2019), meaning you’ll be provided with a high quality education. As part of the student journey you will receive individual attention via a personal tutor system to enable development of your learning and you will get plenty of ‘hands-on’ experience with patients in a wide variety of settings.
Students will also get the opportunity to work practically and theoretically with members of the wider healthcare profession throughout their programme of education. In our pre-registration nursing programmes, students divide their time equally between oncampus learning, in the state-of-the-art Clinical Skills Centre, with the other half of their time spent on placement in NHS Trusts, voluntary agencies and the independent healthcare sector. We’ll be there to help you, every step of the way.

Hey, I’m Alice! I’m a first year English Language student from Teesside.
Hi, I’m Ben, a first year Graphic Design student from Loughborough. Other than being a bit of a graphics nerd and a Greggs lover, I also love to help others.
Hey, I’m Emma! I’m currently a second year Mass Communications with Public Relations student.
Sup guys! I’m Reza, a final year Interaction Design student. I’m Indonesian born and Newcastle raised, so I know this city way too well! I have a personal goal of turning all the videos of my travels into one massive film, or maybe even just a feature length vlog?
My name is Haojin, I’m a final year BSc (Hons) Sport Management student at Northumbria University, and I’m the UG international DCC.
I’m a blogger, cat lover, and nature walk enthusiast. I’m usually found drinking tea, writing, or eating cereal. Or all three... at once. So far I’m loving turning my creativity into content about my life at uni for all you guys to see. See you around!
Northumbria University Undergraduate Prospectus 2020
Since coming to university I’ve joined lots of the volunteering societies one of which is Project ICE (local IT Classes for the Elderly), it’s challenging but very rewarding and I’ve met people I never thought I would!
I’m obsessed with anything fashion or beauty related. When I’m not online shopping, I keep myself busy exploring the best restaurants and bars in Newcastle; taking pictures wherever I go.
Prior to coming to the UK, I finished my foundation year at the Communication University of China, and I studied Digital Visualisation. I love sport, so the sport atmosphere and culture in Newcastle attracted me to come and study here at Northumbria.
