Well done to our fundraising volunteers for the collection at Tesco North Shields who had a sterling £245.15 in their buckets and £8.00 taken via our new contactless system.

We had a lovely chat with Adient. After finding out a bit more of what each other do we were presented with a cheque for £340 from their colleague’s Christmas Bingo. A big thank you to all involved.

A fantastic donation of £1100 handed to us from Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers at The Turf pub in Consett. A big thank you to them.

Back in November 2019 we shared the news that Christine and Rick had completed their epic challenge of a 12 day trek of Everest Base Camp. This phenomenal couple have presented us with ÂŁ800 they had raised through sponsorship. We would like to say a huge thank you to them both and congratulations on this incredible achievement!

With Winter in full swing we are pleased to introduce our latest vehicle to the fleet, which was purchased and prepared for us by www.fredhenderson.com in Durham.

In November we had the pleasure of attending the cheque presentation for the ÂŁ15,000 we received through the Tesco Bags of Help centenary grants. Thank you to all the Tesco colleagues for being so welcoming and the support from Groundwork UK. We are grateful to every customer who chose to support us with their blue tokens during the voting period. With this funding we will be adding a new car to our fleet of vehicles which will enable us to continue to serve those who require our help across the North East of England. This vehicle will help us to transport bulky items and assist us during extreme weather conditions to ensure our service is available every day of the year. As many people were making final preparations for Christmas, Northumbria Blood Bikes helped to spread some festive cheer with their annual Blood Biking Santa Run. Volunteers had been gathering donations of gifts and toys to deliver to children who sadly find themselves in hospital over Christmas. We were overwhelmed by the incredible donations that were made by our own volunteers, their families, friends, employers and local companies. This year saw 52 giant Santa bags full which enabled us to make deliveries to youngsters on wards at four of our local North East hospitals. It was especially moving for volunteers to hear from staff the difference the previous years’ donations had made; plus, seeing the smiles on the faces of everybody who saw our team out with Santa and his Elf made it worthwhile. Thanks to all those involved who helped make this possible, with donating and delivering the toys and to all those on the wards that made our volunteers welcome.

The Kerry family have shown great courage following the devastating loss of their son Owen. They have worked tirelessly raising funds for NBB and encouraging people to give blood in memory of Owen Kerry. We had the honour to announce to them, just before Christmas that they had raised enough to purchase a brand-new blood bike dedicated in Owen’s memory. #legacyofourlostboy #apintforowen #bloodbikes

Annually the members of the charity vote for the volunteer of the year. In 2019 Doreen was the well-deserved winner. Doreen has one of the behind the scenes roles, however she is multitalented and in December became Mrs. Claus. Congratulations Doreen y

We would like to say thank you to everyone who shares these experiences, our volunteers are touched and humbled; but proud to be part of the team that really can #makeadifference #itswhatwedo If you want to volunteer, we would love to hear from you www.northumbriabloodbikes.org.uk
