Self Storage

In this article Rich Blake from LVL5 shares five things to consider when starting your own health and fitness journey…

1. Take Ownership

Make a commitment to yourself, you can read all the information you like or pay the best personal trainers in the world but ultimately YOU are the driving force behind your change. You have to believe you can make the changes before you start to see the changes happen for real.

2. Don’t overcommit

Committing to training every day, drinking three litres of water and only eating salads not only is overwhelming but, in all honesty, a bit boring! Commit to doing ONE thing with 100% focus and commitment each week. It could be as small as drinking a glass of water with each meal or taking a daily five-minute walk outside – which is not only a great start

for your physical health but it is known to have incredible benefits for your mental health too. Trust me these small

changes make a BIG difference.

3. Do something over nothing!!

You’ve planned a workout for the evening but you’ve had the day from hell and the last thing you want to go and do is the exercise class you had planned. Or maybe you pressed that snooze button one too many times? No stress, what can you do instead? Some stretching, a bodyweight session at home, dare I say it again… a quick walk? Having a plan B can help you relieve the stress and pressure of being 100% ‘On plan’.

4. You’re going to mess up…

Messing up is part of the plan, you’re trying to find balance for

the long-term not short-term bouts of ruthless commitment. You may go out for a social event one weekend and then feel like you messed up and what’s the point. But what happens when you accept socialising as being part of the plan? Then is it really messing up at all?

5. Be patient

Society and social media have let us believe that there is a quick easy fix for everything and we want ‘results’ yesterday.

For you to find the most sustainable way to improve your life

it will take time. You will need to change thinking patterns, and behaviours and build new habits, they don’t happen overnight. Be patient, trust the process and you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish. n
