MISSION AND ORGANIZATION Mission Northwestern College is an intentional Christian academic community, engaging students in courageous and faithful learning that empowers them to follow Christ and pursue God’s redeeming work in the world. *Pending Board approval October 2009
Identity Northwestern College is a Christian college in the Reformed tradition, founded in 1882 by the Reformed Church in America. We are committed to providing a Christian liberal arts education in an undergraduate, intercultural and residential environment. We offer bachelor’s degrees in a variety of traditional and professional programs. *Pending Board approval October 2009
Board of Trustees Northwestern College is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of 32 voting members. Of those who are elected, 50 percent represent the Reformed Church in America (RCA). The board is responsible for maintaining the mission and identity of the college, approving policy, and providing guidance for the future.
Accreditation Northwestern is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, the education department is one of four Iowa colleges accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE); the social work department is among 10 Iowa colleges with baccalaureate programs accredited by the Council on Social Work Education; the athletic training education program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE); the business department is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE); and the nursing department is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
