Your host for the Romania Semester is the New Horizons Foundation, an award-winning NGO (non-governmental organization) successfully rebuilding the region’s social capital by investing in youth, teaching them teamwork and trust. Program participants serve as leaders at the foundation’s IMPACT Clubs.

SPRING SEMESTER Muscat, Oman
Located on the Arabian Sea, Oman is internationally known as one of the most peaceful, hospitable nations in the Middle East. In 2010, the United Nations declared Oman’s standard of living had improved more in 40 years than any other country in history. Instructors for the semester are Omani religious scholars and government officials. Participants’ warm welcome in the country is due to the Reformed Church in America’s 120-year legacy of medical and educational work in Oman.

ACCOMMODATIONS & TRAVEL
During your semester by the sea, you’ll live at the Al Amana Centre, near the Souq (marketplace) and waterfront Corniche in Muscat’s “Old City” of Muttrah. Weekend excursions enable you to hike Oman’s Grand Canyon, ride camels in the desert, and swim in the region’s blue-green Wadis.
PROGRAM DIRECTOR
The Rev. Douglas Leonard, director of the Al Amana Centre and professor for the Christian-Muslim Relations class, works closely with Oman’s Ministry of Religious Affairs on interfaith initiatives. Ordained in the RCA, he has a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and studied Arabic at the Qasid Institute in Jordan.
