Internship Search: Radio, TV, Film Insider Advice
Be proactive in your search by using employer sourcing, which means identify the organizations you are interested in and pursue/create opportunities with them.
Apply early, regardless of the application deadline, to demonstrate enthusiasm. Many employers may stop accepting applications after a certain number are received.
“It’s not what you know, but who you know.” A common phrase for this field and one with much truth to it. Take advantage of networking opportunities early and often.
Hiring Cycle Generally, the larger the organization or the more wellknown, the earlier the application materials will need to be submitted. Application materials for formalized summer internship programs are typically accepted between January and March. For middle-sized and/or smaller organizations, internship opportunities will likely be project-based and as a result may not be posted until March or beyond. Keep in mind that you can create your own opportunities by approaching employers and pitching your ideas, skills, and qualifications.
Market Your Skills
Because your internship will likely involve administrative support, it is worthwhile to highlight those skills on your resume, in addition to your technical skills.
