REGISTRATION INFORMATION Reboom is now Community Recreation & Wellness For the last forty years, Northwood has offered residents and members of the community an opportunity to become involved and live more through its community outreach initiative. While the terrific programs and services offered by Reboom won’t be changing, the name will. Reboom will now be known as Community Recreation & Wellness. The new name more clearly identifies the services and experiences that are offered. Membership to Community Recreation & Wellness is $20.00 per year. Membership allows you access to programs, free mailouts, exclusive lectures and other special one-time events. Visit us online at nwood.ns.ca/calendar find the program you wish to register for and click register. Programs, events, education, workshops, etc. are for Community Recreation & Wellness members only, unless otherwise specified. Advance registration is required unless otherwise specified. Drop-in programs do not require a commitment and are on a pay-asyou go basis. However, if you plan to attend a drop-in program, please register in advance using one of the methods listed above.

Artful Escape 2: Artists and Art Lovers Paint by Number A collaborative effort to paint a beautiful canvas in acrylics. Everyone picks a number and paints the same numbered part of the painting sketched in on the canvas in their most creative expression of colours and strokes and within the preset time allowance. Anything goes and in the end we sit back, discuss, laugh and enjoy this colourful, possibly abstract collective work which we hope to show off on the gallery wall or other. Artful Escape 3: Paint What You See In Two Hours Or Less This is an artist’s competitive event where talent and speed win the race. Country Line Dance and Maisie’s Country Time Band Come join the fun! Line Dancing is the classic way to dance to country music. Host Ruth-Ellen Jackson will teach two simple and fun Line Dances early in the evening in preparation for live entertainment by Maisie’s Country Time. The fun really starts when we combine the live music with the Line Dance. Put your boots on and grab a cold beer for a stomping good time. Gentle Yoga
Whether you use a yoga mat or sit in a chair, join experienced instructor Anna Hirtle for a weekly session of breathing exercises, gentle stretches, strengthening postures, and finally a few moments of relaxation. This is open to everyone at all fitness levels and abilities. No prior experience required.
Gentle Yoga is a class that will focus on movements and postures that support lifelong practice. We will move at a slower pace, enjoying the nuances of each pose, with modifications available to suit your individual needs. We will move through poses that help with core, hip and shoulder strength, increasing balance all while creating confidence throughout each movement.

Active Walking Group Walking is great for your health. Get outside and get going. The walking excursions last approximately 1.5 hours with a relaxing stop at a local coffee shop. Routes are determined by the group throughout the summer. Every second week, the group will choose a location accessible by Metro Transit or the Northwood bus. Walk & Talk It’s no secret that being active is key to good health and walking is one of the easiest, wallet-friendly ways to get moving. Walk & Talk is Northwood’s newest, community walking program. Join local walking enthusiast, Virginia MacDonald, for a 45-minute to one-hour walk throughout the surrounding community. The program will end with coffee and conversation at Northwood’s café. Participants will have the option to purchase refreshments based on personal preference. Modeled after DeWolfe Park Walking Group, this free group welcomes those with all abilities. Looking to track your steps during your walk? Ask staff about using smart phone technology or rentable pedometers. Bingo is a great way to get out and meet new people and just have fun. Whether you want to play bingo or volunteer, new people are always welcome. Games consist of 10 regular games, one jackpot game, six specials (optional) and we also collect for a loonie number. Uniacke Estate Museum Park is a rare example of an early 1800s house and landscape that have changed little since they were developed. Stroll the beautiful estate grounds overlooking Lake Martha or adventure down one of the 8 wooded Walking Trails on the 930-hectare estate. Walks range from easy to challenging. Enter the doors of the grand old house and discover a place untouched by time. Rising Tides Day Trip: Wolfville to Halls Harbour The tides are calling us to the Bay of Fundy for this full day bus trip. We head for Wolfville first to enjoy a nice coffee break at the unique Just Us Coffee and Fair Trade Museum. Then it’s on to Prescott House Museum, a beautiful home of the horticulturist who introduced over 25 varieties of apples. Onward we go in search of the Bay of Fundy’s famous rising tides at Halls Harbor where we enjoy a beautiful lobster meal (with a view of the tides) at Halls Harbour Restaurant and Lobster Pound. Don’t like lobster – no problem – there are other delicious options to choose from. Our trip is not complete without a market stop at Hennigars to bring back some fresh finds from our journey. Seating is limited so book early for this great summer day out.

Device Assistance Clinics Computer, iPhone, cell phone, iPads Thanks to the assistance of the Halifax Public Libraries, we offer these free, one hour device assistance clinics designed for people in need of basic supportive learning for their device. Come and learn how to use your favorite device and all its functions – computer, iPhone, iPad et. A laptop computer will be available for use during the session for those needing one. Whether you would like to grow your own organic vegetables, try out new seed varieties, or learn new composting techniques, our Community Garden has space for you. We are pleased to offer a variety of accessible, sit-able and raised beds for rental throughout the growing season.
