REGISTRATION AND MEMBERSHIP
For the last forty years, Northwood has offered residents and members of the community an opportunity to become involved and live more through its community outreach initiative. Membership to Community Recreation & Wellness including Fitness is $25.00 per month or you can sign up for recreation only membership at $25.00 a year. Membership including fitness, offers access to both Fitness Centres in addition to the membership offerings of the recreation membership. Membership offers access to recreation & wellness programs, special events, entertainment and bus trips.

Drop-in programs do not require an ongoing commitment and are on a pay-as-you go basis. However, registration is still required if you plan to attend a drop-in program, please register in advance using one of the methods listed.

Dying with Dignity Presentation: End of Life Choices
In this presentation, you will be guided through different aspects of creating your Advanced Care Plan. You will be introduced to important things to consider such as options for end of life care, patient rights, naming your delegate, and Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID).

Chebucto Links: Zoom Chair Yoga
A gentle approach to yoga using a chair, yoga block, and yoga strap to assist in stretching and strengthening your body. This class incorporates standing, seated, and balance poses.

Functional Fitness
A gentle approach to fitness using the guidelines and techniques from Pilates and Hatha Yoga. This class incorporates free weights, standing balance work, seated postures, breathing exercises and a short meditation component. Great for all levels and abilities. Improve strength and balance, increase lung capacity, socialize and meet new people and experience greater mobility. You’ll leave class feeling a deeper relaxation and sense of ease.

Local author, Jerry Rideout will be sharing from his book of short stories, entitled Growing Up in Short Form. Jerry’s stories are about his experiences growing up in King’s Point, Newfoundland in the 1950’s and 60’s.

The William E. Frank Live More Park & Community Garden
Welcome to the Community Garden at Northwood Bedford Campus (123 Gary Martin Drive)! Whether you would like to grow your own organic vegetables, try out new seed varieties or learn new composting techniques, our Community Garden has space for you. Building on the success of our first few years, we have 42 newly installed beds available for spring and summer sowing, including six accessible units ready for all of your planting needs. A stocked tool shed will be available for all registered gardeners and there will be a host of events offered. Limited spaces available.

Chair Yoga Challenge
A gentle approach to yoga using a chair, yoga block, or strap. Participants will strengthen their muscles, improve balance, body awareness, and overall flexibility. This class is for those that are more advanced in their practice, as it will be more challenging. A short relaxation will wrap up your session. This class is in collaboration with the Falls Prevention class which will occur every fourth week.

Chair Yoga with Weights
Experience a gentler approach to Hatha Yoga. Stretch and strengthen your body in standing, seated, and balance yoga postures. Breathing exercises and other mindfulness techniques will be used to promote relaxation, healing, and resiliency. Experience relief from pain, ease of movement, and increased strength and mobility just to name a few. All levels and abilities are welcome. Modifications and variations will be shown.

Falls Prevention Workshop and Fitness Class
This fall prevention fitness class is tailored for older adults and led by Physiotherapist and Pilates’ instructor, Jalisa den Hartog. The class is aimed at preventing falls from occurring by improving your mobility, strength and balance. It will also teach you ways to fall safely or to get up from a fall if it were to happen.

Gentle Chair Yoga
Join certified Yoga instructor Brian Taylor for a gentle seated yoga class. This class uses the principles of yoga to gently stretch, strengthen, and relax in a friendly and welcoming environment. This class is well suited for beginners and those with previous yoga experience.

Seated Dance Class
Anyone can dance! This seated class uses many forms of dance, including tap, modern, jazz, ballroom, square dance, and folk dances. The music ranges from Big Band, Swing, Classical, Country, and Broadway, representing an era well known to those in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

Halifax Public Libraries joins us to offer free device assistance clinics to help you learn the basics. Pilates
Join our certified Pilates instructor for a core strengthening mat class. Along with strengthening the core, Pilates can improve posture, flexibility, balance and coordination. Pilates exercises focus overall body strength. This class is aimed at the active adult who can get up and down from the floor with ease.
