REGISTRATION AND MEMBERSHIP

Welcome to Community Recreation & Wellness A membership to Community Recreation & Wellness is $20.00 per year. The membership allows you access to programs, free mail-outs, exclusive lectures and other special one-time events. To get your membership or to renew, please stop by one of the Community Recreation & Wellness Offices, visit us online, email, or call us.

Two Ways to Register 1. Call our office at 902-454-335. If we are not available when you call, leave us a message telling us your name, your contact information and the program you’re interested in. We will call you back soon. 2. Stop by either our Halifax or Bedford office during business hours. For up-to-date times that we are available please call us.

Participation Information Programs, events, education, workshops, etc. are for Community Recreation & Wellness members only, unless otherwise specified. Advance registration is required unless otherwise specified. Drop-in programs do not require a commitment and are on a pay-as-you go basis. However, please register in advance using one of the methods listed.

The importance of fitness FITNESS INFORMATION For health benefits, it is recommended that seniors get 150 minutes of excercise every week. Browse our fitness programs, join the Fitness Centre and choose the activity that is right for you! Please note that to ensure your safety and best experience; we may require medical clearance to participate in our fitness programs.

BEDFORD Chair Yoga Grounding (Level 1) Chair Yoga Grounding is a fully seated and accessible yoga class that offers modifications so that everyone can enjoy the class. It places focus on functional poses that increase mobility, strengthen muscles and help to link breathing exercises to movement. A great program for overall health. Join us in the community room for a friendly competition where you can show off your skills to win prizes, and learn some new facts! Garden Closing Event We invite you to join in the end of season closing of our green space. To ensure that the space is prepared for the coming colder months, lend a helping hand to fertilize, mulch and cleanup the garden so it is just as beautiful for next year. A Day Downtown Let’s take a trip to explore the sights and sounds of downtown Halifax! Worried about parking? Not a problem! The Northwood bus will bring you right down to the waterfront for an afternoon of window shopping and snacking on your favourite maritime treat (it is a toss up between Cows Ice Cream and Beaver Tails for me!). HALIFAX Gentle Chair Yoga (Multiple Days and Locations!) Join a certified Yoga instructor for a gentle seated yoga class. This class uses the principles of yoga to gently stretch, strengthen, and relax in a friendly and welcoming environment. This class is well suited for beginners and those with previous yoga experience. The fall program term offers two six-week sessions at each location. Sign up for both sessions at one location and save $10! Pilates Join certified Pilates instructor, Ruth Ellen Jackson, for a core strengthening mat class. Pilates can improve posture, flexibility, balance, and coordination. This class is aimed for the active adult who can get up and down from the floor with ease. Due to the nature of this class, all new members must be approved by instructor. This class is delivered virtually through the Zoom platform but there may be opportunity for in person classes at both the Northwood Halifax and Bedford Campuses. BINGO is Back! We are so excited to offer our popular bingo to the Northwood community again. HALIFAX Live Entertainment Evenings We are excited to bring live entertainment back to the halls of Northwood this fall. Our biweekly entertainment nights will feature various performers who will be sure to make you tap your toes, sing along, or laugh out loud. Northwood has partnered with Cycling Without Age to help seniors get back on bicycles. Call or email us to arrange your FREE ride and keep an eye out for the bikes around you! When: By appointment. Annapolis Valley Autumn Tour Is it fall in Nova Scotia without a trip to the Annapolis Valley? On this autumn themed bus trip we will drive to the town of Kentville to see the famous Pumpkin People Festival and enjoy lunch. We will then move on to Wolfville where we will tour Noggin’s Farm. Stock up on fresh treats, get lost in the corn maze, or enjoy a hayride to the apple orchard. This trip is sure to get you in the spirit of the season. When: Halifax Departure:
