REGISTRATION INFORMATION Community Recreation & Wellness For the last forty years, Northwood has offered residents and members of the community an opportunity to become involved and live more through its community outreach initiative. Membership to Community Recreation & Wellness is $20.00 per year. Membership allows you access to programs, free mailouts, exclusive lectures and other special one-time events. To get your membership or to renew, please stop by the Community Recreation & Wellness office, visit us online or email us at crec@nwood.ns.ca

MUSIC & ARTS Dance for Life Anyone can dance! This class uses many forms of dance, including tap, modern, jazz, ballroom, square dance, and folk dances. The music ranges from Big Band, Swing, Classical, Country, and Broadway, representing an era well known to those in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

Art Studio Series Calling all Painters! These series of instructional artist studio time are for all experienced levels of artists to work on their independent projects in a social, yet serious environment. Through the shared space you will have the opportunity to learn from each other, learn new skills from the professional instructional artists and have the opportunity to seek support on various skills. HEALTH & WELLNESS Bedford Fitness Chair Yoga This class is an accessible yoga class that focuses on seated postures and modified poses that everyone can enjoy! The class will focus on functional poses that help mobility of the spine and joints, stretch and strengthen our muscles and deep breathing exercises that are linked with movement. Laughter Yoga

Walk & Talk

Laughter Yoga is a unique social activity that combines voluntary laughter, youthful playfulness, and breathing exercises. This class is practiced in a chair, and is accessible to everyone. Laughter Yoga can increase your mood, strengthen your immune system, and decrease stress. Laugh your way to better health!

It’s no secret that being active is key to good health and walking is one of the easiest, wallet friendly ways to get moving. Join local walking expert, Virginia MacDonald, for a 45-minute to one-hour, low-impact walk throughout the surrounding community’s trials. The program will end with coffee and conversation at Northwood’s café. Participants will have the option to purchases refreshments based on personal preference.

Boccia Ball Easter Seals Nova Scotia Boccia Program (pron.: /boch- ) is a precision ball sport, related to bowling. The sport is contested at local, national and international levels, by athletes with severe physical disabilities. In 1984, it became a Paralympic sport, and is now played in more than 50 countries worldwide. If you’re curious about learning more, or giving Boccia a try, please contact us. Wheelz in West Bedford will be taking place on Thursday, May 16 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm to kick off the upcoming summer months. Here, you can learn more about summer programs, our Community Garden and all the amenities the William E. Frank LIVE MORE Park has to offer. Halifax Public Library joins us once a month to offer a wide variety of library services in a ‘pop-up’ style. The ability to obtain a library card, renew a library card, check out a book and more all within walking distance of West Bedford. Stop by Northwood’s Bedford Campus to check out the selection of books, ask questions about library services or learn what classes the library offers.

Bus Trip: Celebrating British Culture We are adding some British flair and fare to this great day out. Heading for Windsor first, we will stroll through the town to shop or sightsee (top hats and crowns optional) then land at the Spitfire Arms for either a late morning bangers breakfast, fish and chips or something else that you may prefer. We will then head to Main Street in Wolfville, where we will enjoy a sumptuous Victorian teatime at Randall House museum. It is a great day to feel British without going too far from home.
