Accreditation at Shoreham Village

Shoreham is completing accreditation this fall on October 3, 4, and 5th for the first time. The Shoreham Team has been working diligently to meet these standards and is prioritizing the commitment to continuous quality improvement at Shoreham Village.

WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?

Accreditation is an ongoing process of assessing organizations against standards of excellence to identify what is being done well and what needs to be improved. The whole organization is involved in accreditation, from front-line staff and volunteers to board members, residents, and families.

Surveyors will be on-site during these times asking residents, families, and staff about their experiences working with Shoreham Village. As more information becomes available, we have been posting to the bulletin boards located on-site. We look forward to hearing your feedback and welcome suggestions for future improvement.

Shoreham Drummers Program

With the support of the Community Health Board Wellness Fund, Lunenburg County, We were given the opportunity to collaborate with Scotia Music to deliver an amazing Shoreham Drummers program. We had the privilege to hear some of our residents play “The Saints Go Marching In” for us during their final drumming concert. Thank you to Ashley for all her hard work teaching us how to drum. We would also like to thank Heather for coming and playing the bagpipes. The residents truly enjoyed this experience.

Water Dunk Tank

Here at Shoreham, we know how to have fun on a hot August day. Thank you to everyone who participated in our “water dunk” fun. The water was cold, the sun was hot, and there were so many good memories made. As you can see, laughter is good for the soul. We will be holding another “water dunk” afternoon for a Resident Council fundraiser in September. This one is “Dunk the Managers” – this should be fun.

Meet Shoreham’s new hairdresser

Hi, I’m Rosie Whynot! I have been a master hairstylist for 33 years. I love doing hair for my seniors, it gives me so much joy to see them happy at the end of the day. I grew up in Martins Point and have spent most of my life in the area. I recently came back home to continue doing what I love here at Shoreham Village. I look forward to meeting every client here at the home. Please feel free to stop in and chat about your loved ones’ hair or just to say hi! Thanks and talk soon.

Butterfly Release Program

This year we were gifted a butterfly release program by the Westhaver family. It was a lovely experience to watch the delicate process of the caterpillars cocooning and developing into beautiful butterflies. It’s definitely a nature’s wonder and we cherished every change, movement, and beauty that happened before our eyes.

Palliative Care at Shoreham Village

Here at Shoreham Village, we strive to give our residents and their families the best care available for their needs using best practice guidelines. In an effort to accomplish this, a new palliative care resource team has been established here at Shoreham Village. The team is composed of interdisciplinary team members such as; a registered nurse, a licensed practical nurse, a dietician, a recreation therapist, etc. Each member of this team has gone through palliative care education to further their knowledge and be a reference for other team members, families, and residents. We continue to provide education to our Shoreham team and hope that all your needs are met! Please see your Nursing Service Managers should you require more in-depth information or address any concerns you may have.

Garden swing from Shoreham Village Foundation

Thank you to our Shoreham Village Foundation for supporting the purchase of a Whisper Glide swing. This swing is accessible for those living with mobility challenges and is a wonderful therapeutic resource for our residents. Family, friends, and volunteers can be provided instruction on the proper use and safety of the chair from our Recreation Team. We encourage folks to utilize this beautiful device. It is incredibly fun to swing and socialize with residents; great quality time!

Upcoming Bake sale

Shoreham is having a bake sale on Friday, October 6th at 1:30 pm. Funds raised will support the Resident Council. There will also be a table with gently used items for sale. Please let the recreation team know if you would like to contribute any baked items towards the bake sale or if you have any gently used items you wish to donate. Thank you to everyone in advance.

Goats visit shoreham!

Who doesn’t like kids? We had the pleasure of meeting 4 baby goats from Windbound Farm on Windsor Rd. and what a joy that was. We would like to say thank you to Brenda for bringing the “kids” in. It was a real treat for our residents to snuggle and feed these little goats.
