something special NYA is a special place! We challenge students to try new things and support them along the way. We are small enough that your teachers and classmates will know you well, but large enough to make a difference. At NYA, our community is central and recognizes that who you are now is just as important as who you will become.

‘‘

At

it’s all about

I had the opportunity to become a better person. The opportunity to make an impact on people’s lives. The opportunity to learn. The opportunity to experience things I never would have experienced outside of NYA. NYA made me who I am.” —Te’Andre, New York City

NYA offers an eclectic array of experiences that go beyond the classroom, including our environmental writing class culminating in an adventure to Glacier Bay, Alaska, where students meet the writers they’ve studied and see up close the impact of climate change. 5

‘‘

We’re all here for each other. If one of us struggles, we’re there for support. We become strong together instead of climbing individually.” —Jackie, Cumberland

We believe it’s important to be active and learn to excel by working together. Teamwork is emphasized both in the classroom and our afterschool activity programs.

‘‘

You get a lot of freedom in how you want to express yourself. Through my art, I was able to express animal activism, which was a key part of developing myself throughout high school.” —Sydney, Yarmouth

10

Once you experience the power of expression—whether it’s through theater performances, music, or the visual arts— you’ll graduate from NYA as a confident, articulate writer and speaker.

Because of NYA, I’ve gained self-confidence and self-understanding in my life, which have given me purpose beyond high school.” —Mason, Scarborough

If it’s not in the curriculum, it doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Our teachers help you pursue your interests. You can explore subjects and activities that interest you most through our afterschool programs, enrichment courses, Diplomas with Distinction, independent studies, and more.

‘‘

There is an undeniable connection like no other between people here. I could not imagine attending high school anywhere else, or with anyone else.” —Livi, Buxton

Each year, Middle School science classes collect and study macroinvertebrates in Yarmouth’s Royal River. Students analyze the water quality and share the results with our community and the town. At NYA, we go outside, and we strive to be mindful of the natural world around us and respectful of our surroundings.

A

t North Yarmouth Academy, crossdisciplinary expression is an important feature for shaping a child’s academic experience. For over 200 years, we have motivated our students to develop a true love for learning by relating their aspirations to the curriculum. This is encouraged through authentic and meaningful connections between faculty and students from early education to post graduate. The individualized attention, developed in small class sizes, allows the student experience to reflect their interests and enable them to thrive in any program offered at NYA. Our idyllic campus is home to students who demonstrate dedication and preparedness because of the ideals displayed by our encouraging and warm faculty. NYA is able to exhibit these qualities by adhering to certain character values. These values include respect, honesty, perseverance, compassion, and responsibility. With these values at the center of our mission, students can strive to develop integrity and intellect in not only academics but arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities. To fully understand how our community soars, schedule a tour with the Admission Office or take a virtual tour on our website today. I look forward to meeting you.
