MISSION

North Yarmouth Academy is an independent, college preparatory, co-educational school.

The Academy offers a structured program that establishes clear standards and high expectations in an environment that emphasizes values of mutual respect, trust, and community. North Yarmouth Academy is dedicated to fostering integrity, character, and intellect in its students.

Through small class sizes and our open campus, students at NYA get to know the entire student body, as well as faculty and staff, creating a culture of good character and a successful environment for academic and personal growth.

Through the support of their teachers and peers, there are no barriers to students diving into their academics. Our emphasis on creative and flexible schedules and faculty development is designed to give students ownership of their education and the resilience to achieve.

Begin your journey with the Montessori Method.

ELEMENTARY (GRADES 1-4)

You’ll grow academically and socially, building on your strong foundation. You’ll even learn to skate and play the ukulele and violin!

Welcome to the Middle School! You’ll still have one classroom teacher as you ease your way in!

Now you’ve got an advisor, you’re changing classes, and you’ve got choices. Character, leadership, study skills, and wellness are all part of the program.

GRADE 9

Welcome to the Upper School! Ninth grade seminar, your new advisor, and courses and electives you get to pick yourself give you the support and structure to thrive as an Upper School student.

GRADES 10-11

Have a passion? Design an independent study or choose one of seven diplomas with distinction, or head outside with our Kauffmann Program.

GRADE 12 AND PG

You’ve made it! Look forward to your senior speech, distinction capstone project, college applications, treasured friendships, and being totally ready for what lies ahead!

UPPER SCHOOL FOR

Students in the Upper School are given the tools to aspire high and achieve their goals while keeping a manageable balance in their personal lives. They graduate as sophisticated scholars, confident self-advocates, and leaders in their communities.

The Middle School years are a fundamental time for NYA students. Through programs like advisory, life skills, and the activity requirement, Middle School students begin to find their academic styles and grow in their interests and character.

Setting a standard for students’ personal investment in their own education is a differentiator of the NYA education. Starting with Montessori methodology, Lower School students have expansive schedules and are a part of NYA’s campus, facilities, and traditions.

A special part of our culture is the continued involvement of our graduates. Our alumni achieve incredible lives after NYA and are inspirations to current students, showing them their own futures can be bright after graduation.
