Dysney Disfunction by Michelle Sewell

A young soldier returning from the trenches of the First World War recollects a love that dare not speak its name. Almost one hundred years later, a groom-to-be prepares for his gay wedding. Queers celebrates a century of evolving social attitudes and political milestones in British gay history, as seen through the eyes of eight individuals. Poignant and personal, funny, tragic and riotous, these eight monologues cover major events such as the Wolfenden Report of 1957, the HIV/ AIDS crisis, and the debate over age of consent – through deeply affecting and personal ritesof-passage stories.

Edinburgh Preview

Malcolm Bradbury Award winner Michelle Sewell takes us on a reality vs Disney journey through love and childhood memories. In Brexit Britain, happily ever after (and UK residency) is just a marriage visa away. But Australian Alice’s visa expires today and she’s only got Primark flats for glass slippers, an Oyster card for a pumpkin coach and a prince who won’t twerk. Visa-less and forced to return to a country she doesn’t call home anymore, she waits at the tube for Prince Charming to rescue her. Alice quickly learns love changes people and childhood stories have no place in the adult world. Supported by Norwich Arts Centre.
