About Norwich University Founded in 1819 by Captain Aldridge Partridge, Norwich University in nestled in the Green Mountains in Northfield, Vermont. Norwich is the nation’s oldest private military college. Today Norwich University offers educational opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. The undergraduate experience offers a choice of being in the Corps of Cadets or as a civilian student. Both lifestyles are integrated within the classroom, athletic teams, and student organizations. Norwich’s undergraduate student population of 2000 hail from 40 different states and 20 foreign countries. Eighty-one percent of the 112 faculty hold terminal degrees. Norwich boasts a student to faculty ratio of 14:1 and is proud of its long tradition of excellence in teaching and personal attention given to students. Thirty academic programs, including a teacher/education licensure program, and four ROTC programs are offered. Norwich is the birthplace of teh ROTC program due to the innovative educational methods of Alden Partridge. As an NCAA Division III school, the University sponsors varsity athletic competition in men’s and women’s ice hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s volleyball, wrestling, men’s tennis and men’s and women’s swimming and diving, as well as men’s and women’s rugby. On campus, Norwich offers 80 clubs and organizations including academic and professional societies, special interest clubs and a range of religious, military and community service organizations. Under its School of Graduate Studies, Norwich offers 10 online graduate degrees at the Master’s level and one certificate program. Enrollment in the graduate school is 1200 students. Well into his fourth decade of service to Norwich University, Tony Mariano continues to provide leadership to a Norwich athletics program that has attained unprecedented levels of success. The 2003-04 season was arguably the finest in school history as all 16 varsity sports teams competed in postseason action, highlighted by the football team's first bowl game appearance in 20 years, and the men's ice hockey team competing in its sixth Division III "Frozen Four." Additionally, the Norwich men's rugby team qualified for the 16-team USA Rugby Collegiate Championship for the first time in program history. Mariano is in his 18th year as the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, after spending his first 16 seasons in Northfield as a coach. He was head men's soccer coach from 1978-84, before being named head men's ice hockey coach in 1982. Under Mariano's guidance, the Norwich men's ice hockey team made its first postseason appearance in 1984, and went on to appear in seven ECAC tournaments and earn two NCAA Championship berths. Mariano stepped down as head coach in 1992 when he assumed his current duties as athletic director. Mariano is a 1974 graduate of St. Lawrence University with a degree in physical education. He received his master's degree from Norwich in 1975. Tony and his wife Gail reside in Northfield. Their son, Tom, is an assistant hockey coach at Hobart.

Amanda Cuiffo is in her sixth year as an administrator and coach in the Norwich University athletic department. She was elevated in 2010 to Associate Director of Athletics after serving for five years as an assistant athletic director and the senior woman administrator. Cuiffo also serves as head coach of NU’s women's volleyball program. In her role as Associate Director of Athletics, Cuiffo oversees the following sport programs: women’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s rugby, softball and women’s basketball. Cuiffo is also the assistant director of compliance, she monitors contest scheduling, she oversees event management and she is responsible for aspects of student-athlete affairs to include supervision of Norwich’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and coordination of Norwich’s CHAMPS/Life Skills Program. Prior to arriving at Norwich, Cuiffo served as the head women's tennis coach at Brandeis University and the assistant volleyball coach at Bentley College. Cuiffo also assisted the volleyball team at Smith College as well as the tennis and squash teams at Amherst College, while completing her graduate work at Smith. Cuiffo graduated magna cum laude from Colby College in 2002. While at Colby, Cuiffo captained the volleyball team during both her junior and senior years and was a four-time team MVP. She was named All-New England “Rookie of the Year” in 1998, David Botelho and was twice selected to the All-NESCAC second team. Charlie Crosby is in his sixth year in the Norwich University athletic department, and his first as the sports information director. Crosby previously served as the Director of Major Gifts in the NU Office of Institutional Advancement. Before that, he was a sales manager for LeCroy, a New York-based firm that designs, builds and sells digital high-speed oscilloscopes. Crosby is a 1963 graduate of Norwich University. He was a member of both the baseball and rifle teams at NU during his college days. In 2001, he was inducted into the Norwich Hall of Fame. Crosby and his wife Carole reside in Northfield. They have two daughters and two granddaughters.

Kelley Ruch enters her first year as an assistant director of sports information at Norwich University. She is the primary contact for men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse. Ruch is a 2009 graduate of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. Upon graduating, she was the Sports Information Intern for her alma mater, where she assisted with the daily coverage and media relations for the College’s 21 varsity sports. Ruch was a four-year starter for the women’s soccer team at Saint Michael’s. She also served as the online editor of the College’s newspaper, The Defender, and interned in the sports information office in the fall of 2008. At the end of her senior year, she was awarded the George “Doc” Jacobs Award, which is given to the student-athlete who makes an outstanding contribution to the Saint Michael’s College athletic program.

Matt Albury has been hired as a sports information intern for the academic year 2010-2011. He will assist Norwich sports information director Charles Crosby and assistant directors Derek Dunning and Kelley Ruch in the day-to-day operations of the office. Albury will be responsible for multiple duties including acting as the primary statistician for the majority of sports, producing game day programs, and assisting with website maintenance. He will serve as the primary contact for men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s rugby, wrestling, men's and women's swimming and diving, women’s lacrosse and baseball. Albury, a 2010 graduate of Norwich, spent the previous four years as an undergraduate assistant in the sports information office.

Assistant Director Derek Dunning is in his first year as an assitant director of sports information. He is the primary contact for the men's and women's ice hockey teams, men's and women's cross country, and assists with football. He graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and an athletic coaching minor. While at Oswego, he wrote for the Oswegonian school newspaper as well as the student-run television station, WTOP where he provided color commentary and in-game analysis for hockey broadcasts. Dunning was a three-year member of the cross country team and interned with the Oswego State Hockey Blueline Club assisting with marketing, media guide sales, and gameday management as well as with the Palladium-Times daily newspaper. Before coming to Norwich, he has served as the USCHO.com Division III Women's Correspondent since 2007 and worked as a sports reporter for the Leader-Herald daily newspaper in Gloversville, N.Y.

Norwich Coaching Staff Laura Dunn Head Coach Laura Dunn enters her third season at the helm of the Norwich University Swimming and Diving Program. The North Pomfret, Vt., native started swimming year-round at the age of eight, when she joined the North Country Aquatic Club (NCAC). A graduate of Woodstock Union High School, Dunn was a multiple Vermont state record-holder as a swimmer for the Woodstock Recreational Department. Dunn was a four-year varsity member of the swim team at the College of Wooster, earning recognition as an All-American three times (1998, 1999, 2000). She was a former school record-holder in the 200-yard freestyle and as a member of multiple relays. Dunn began her coaching career at Orrville YMCA before moving on to Colby-Sawyer College a year later. As an assistant she helped guide the Charger program in its infancy from 2001-03 while simultaneously working for the North Country Aquatic Club. Dunn left her position at Colby-Sawyer after being elevated to head assistant coach for the NCAC. While at the NCAC Dunn worked at the University of Texas at Austin swim camp in the summers of 2003 and 2004. While there she worked with some of the top swimming coaches in the country, including the most recent U.S. men’s Olympic coach. Dunn arrived at NU in the fall of 2005 as an assistant to head coach Steve Looke. She received the NEISDA Championship “Men’s Coach of the Year” award in 2007. Dunn has been the coach for most of the team records on the men’s record board.
