About Norwich University Founded in 1819 by Captain Aldridge Partridge, Norwich University in nestled in the Green Mountains in Northfield, Vermont. Norwich is the nation’s oldest private military college. Today Norwich University offers educational opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. The undergraduate experience offers a choice of being in the Corps of Cadets or as a civilian student. Both lifestyles are integrated within the classroom, athletic teams, and student organizations. Norwich’s undergraduate student population of 2000 hail from 40 different states and 20 foreign countries. Eighty-one percent of the 112 faculty hold terminal degrees. Norwich boasts a student to faculty ratio of 14:1 and is proud of its long tradition of excellence in teaching and personal attention given to students. Thirty academic programs, including a teacher/education licensure program, and four ROTC programs are offered. Norwich is the birthplace of teh ROTC program due to the innovative educational methods of Alden Partridge. As an NCAA Division III school, the University sponsors varsity athletic competition in men’s and women’s ice hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s volleyball, wrestling, men’s tennis and men’s and women’s swimming and diving, as well as men’s and women’s rugby. On campus, Norwich offers 80 clubs and organizations including academic and professional societies, special interest clubs and a range of religious, military and community service organizations. Under its School of Graduate Studies, Norwich offers 10 online graduate degrees at the Master’s level and one certificate program. Enrollment in the graduate school is 1200 students. Well into his fourth decade of service to Norwich University, Tony Mariano continues to provide leadership to a Norwich athletics program that has attained unprecedented levels of success. The 2003-04 season was arguably the finest in school history as all 16 varsity sports teams competed in postseason action, highlighted by the football team's first bowl game appearance in 20 years, and the men's ice hockey team competing in its sixth Division III "Frozen Four." Additionally, the Norwich men's rugby team qualified for the 16-team USA Rugby Collegiate Championship for the first time in program history. Mariano is in his 18th year as the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, after spending his first 16 seasons in Northfield as a coach. He was head men's soccer coach from 1978-84, before being named head men's ice hockey coach in 1982. Under Mariano's guidance, the Norwich men's ice hockey team made its first postseason appearance in 1984, and went on to appear in seven ECAC tournaments and earn two NCAA Championship berths. Mariano stepped down as head coach in 1992 when he assumed his current duties as athletic director. Mariano is a 1974 graduate of St. Lawrence University with a degree in physical education. He received his master's degree from Norwich in 1975. Tony and his wife Gail reside in Northfield. Their son, Tom, is an assistant hockey coach at Hobart.
Amanda Cuiffo is in her sixth year as an administrator and coach in the Norwich University athletic department. She was elevated in 2010 to Associate Director of Athletics after serving for five years as an assistant athletic director and the senior woman administrator. Cuiffo also serves as head coach of NU’s women's volleyball program. In her role as Associate Director of Athletics, Cuiffo oversees the following sport programs: women’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s rugby, softball and women’s basketball. Cuiffo is also the assistant director of compliance, she monitors contest scheduling, she oversees event management and she is responsible for aspects of student-athlete affairs to include supervision of Norwich’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and coordination of Norwich’s CHAMPS/Life Skills Program. Prior to arriving at Norwich, Cuiffo served as the head women's tennis coach at Brandeis University and the assistant volleyball coach at Bentley College. Cuiffo also assisted the volleyball team at Smith College as well as the tennis and squash teams at Amherst College, while completing her graduate work at Smith. Cuiffo graduated magna cum laude from Colby College in 2002. While at Colby, Cuiffo captained the volleyball team during both her junior and senior years and was a four-time team MVP. She was named All-New England “Rookie of the Year” in 1998, David Botelho and was twice selected to the All-NESCAC second team. Charlie Crosby is in his sixth year in the Norwich University athletic department, and his first as the sports information director. Crosby previously served as the Director of Major Gifts in the NU Office of Institutional Advancement. Before that, he was a sales manager for LeCroy, a New York-based firm that designs, builds and sells digital high-speed oscilloscopes. Crosby is a 1963 graduate of Norwich University. He was a member of both the baseball and rifle teams at NU during his college days. In 2001, he was inducted into the Norwich Hall of Fame. Crosby and his wife Carole reside in Northfield. They have two daughters and two granddaughters.
Kelley Ruch enters her first year as an assistant director of sports information at Norwich University. She is the primary contact for men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse. Ruch is a 2009 graduate of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. Upon graduating, she was the Sports Information Intern for her alma mater, where she assisted with the daily coverage and media relations for the College’s 21 varsity sports. Ruch was a four-year starter for the women’s soccer team at Saint Michael’s. She also served as the online editor of the College’s newspaper, The Defender, and interned in the sports information office in the fall of 2008. At the end of her senior year, she was awarded the George “Doc” Jacobs Award, which is given to the student-athlete who makes an outstanding contribution to the Saint Michael’s College athletic program.

Matt Albury has been hired as a sports information intern for the academic year 2010-2011. He will assist Norwich sports information director Charles Crosby and assistant directors Derek Dunning and Kelley Ruch in the day-to-day operations of the office. Albury will be responsible for multiple duties including acting as the primary statistician for the majority of sports, producing game day programs, and assisting with website maintenance. He will serve as the primary contact for men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s rugby, wrestling, men's and women's swimming and diving and baseball. Albury, a 2010 graduate of Norwich, spent the previous four years as an undergraduate assistant in the sports information office.

Assistant Director Derek Dunning is in his first year as an assitant director of sports information. He is the primary contact for the men's and women's ice hockey teams, men's and women's cross country, tennis and softball. He graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and an athletic coaching minor. While at Oswego, he wrote for the Oswegonian school newspaper as well as the student-run television station, WTOP where he provided color commentary and in-game analysis for hockey broadcasts. Dunning was a three-year member of the cross country team and interned with the Oswego State Hockey Blueline Club assisting with marketing, media guide sales, and gameday management as well as with the Palladium-Times daily newspaper. Before coming to Norwich, he has served as the USCHO.com Division III Women's Correspondent since 2007 and worked as a sports reporter for the Leader-Herald daily newspaper in Gloversville, N.Y.

2011 Season Outlook The Norwich University men’s lacrosse team finished their 2010 season with a 1-6 conference record in the Pilgrim League and making .500 with an overall 88 finish. However, the Cadets will be facing new opponents and new challenges this season as they make their move to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, where they are already ranked third in the preseason poll.
Senior Tyler Nicoll “It would have been great to grow our program in our old league because it had some very good lacrosse programs,” says third-year head coach Neal Anderson. “It is, however, a great opportunity to push for a league title with our young team.” It will be the inaugural season of the GNAC lacrosse program, and Norwich will go head-to-head with seven other schools: Emerson, Lasell, Mount Ida, Rivier, St. Joseph’s (Me.), Daniel Webster and Becker College. Anderson recently added a nontraditional fall season to the program and activated a preseason team weight lifting schedule, as well as senior-led practice sessions for the players in their off-season. The additional commitment and training by his student-athletes should make for a competitive 2011 squad as they embark on their new GNAC schedule. Anderson has 15 returning players and will have 19 new members suiting up in the maroon and gold this season. Sophomore attacker Joe Galante never seemed to miss a beat when he put
on his Norwich uniform and stepped foot onto Howard Field for his first collegiate game in 2010. He started all but one game and racked up 48 points with 30 goals and 18 assists. Galante will be a key role player in the Cadets offense this season. Senior attacker and midfielder Tyler Nicoll will be returning for his fourth and final season in maroon and gold, looking to advance his statistics from the 20 points he accumulated last year with 14 goals and six assists. The veteran will guide the midfielders and move up to join Galante on the attack to put numbers on the scoreboard, while classmate Tyler Woods helps in this attempt. Woods collected 10 points and 20 ground balls last year and is the third returning attackmen for the Cadets. Anderson has a veteran midfield lineup coming back for the 2011 season. Returning seven athletes who all saw extensive playing time last season, the GNAC can expect to see a very controlled game played by the Cadets as they transition from defense to offense. Senior Patrick Sikora will be an important leader in this position, as he ranked seventh on the team in statistics last season with 11 goals, 12 points and 39 ground balls. As the third returner from 2010’s top-statistical leaders, it will be important for Sikora to step up his game and play a key role in the middle part of the field. Classmate Kevin Young will help Sikora in this leadership position, while welcoming back sophomores Arron Canarelli, Nate Fortezzo, Anthony Pritchard, Judd Baggett and Steven Perry to the field. The Cadets have three returning defensemen: senior Jason Moore, junior Corey Cicio, and sophomore Thomas Andrews, who combined for over 70 ground balls last season and 13 caused turnovers. Two goalies return to the net for the 2011 season, including junior Nathan Proctor, who started 12 of 13 games last year, seeing over 714 minutes of action. He made 126 saves over the course of the season and racked up a 5-7-0 record. His ex-

perience will prove to be valuable as the Cadets face new GNAC offensive threats. Sophomore Caleb Fournier will also return to his position between the pipes, as he faced 59 shots and made 17 saves last year, finishing the season with a 2-0 record. The Norwich Cadets will welcome three sophomores to the squad this season with defensemen Jacob Girard and Mike Angotti, and attacker Michael Magill. There will also be 16 new faces from the freshman class that put on a maroon and gold uniform for the first time in 2011. Marc Wiederaenders and Ian Thomas will join the attackers. The midfield lineup will see the biggest addition and holds great potential for 10 freshmen to step up and make an immediate impact. Joey Ditommaso, Ian Mendozza, William Flanagan, Brett Sewing and Andrew Dustin will help in the middle of the field, as will Andrew Pomeroy, Brandon Stubbs, Patrick Tommins, Zachary MacMillian, and Austin Greene. Joining the defensive lines will be freshmen Zach Maysonet, Timothy Seibert and Andrew Beechinor. Mark Paradiso will step up to the challenge of holding his own in net at the collegiate level for the Cadets as the incoming goalie. The men’s lacrosse team will open their 2011 schedule on March 9 at Anna Maria for a 3 p.m. non-conference game. They will host their home opener at Howard Field on March 30 against in-state rival Castleton State College at 4 p.m.

Neal Anderson is in the midst of his second season as the Norwich University men's lacrosse coach. Anderson became the first full-time men's lacrosse coach in the program's history when he was hired last year. Anderson has prior college lacrosse head coaching experience at Curry College, where served as the head coach for three seasons. “There is tremendous enthusiasm about lacrosse on the Norwich campus," said Anderson. "I am excited to bring my expertise and build upon this great culture of athletic excellence that exists here.” A 2000 graduate of Merrimack College, Anderson played college lacrosse at the University of New Hampshire and at Merrimack. He served as team captain of the Merrimack squad as a senior. Following his senior campaign, Anderson was named a USILA-NCAA All-American, and was also selected as a USILANCAA Academic All-American. Following graduation, Anderson was selected in the seventh round of the Major League Lacrosse draft by the Boston Cannons. He played in the professional league for seven season, splitting time between the Cannons and the Denver Outlaws. His previous coaching experience also includes a two-year stint as an assistant coach for the Merrimack College men's lacrosse team.
Carl Mintken embarks upon his second season working with the Norwich men's lacrosse program. He will be assisting primarily with the team's transition game, and the squad's face-off specialists this spring. Mintken is also an assistant football coach at NU, working with the team's offensive linemen. Mintken arrived at NU following a one-year stint as running backs coach at Murray State University. Prior to working at Murray State, Mintken spent three years at Springfield College as a graduate assistant coach. While at Springfield, he helped lead the team to the 2006 Empire 8 Conference championship. His offensive line unit also helped the Pride lead the nation in rushing yards per game in 2006. Mintken got his start in coaching at Maine Maritime, where he served as an intern assistant coach from 2003-2005. In addition to working with both the offensive and defensive lines, Mintken designed and implemented the strength and conditioning program at Maine Maritime. Mintken earned a bachelor's degree from Springfield College in 2003, and went onto earn a master's degree from Springfield in 2007. He played four years of varsity football at Springfield. As one of the team's offensive tackles, he helped lead the Pride to Freedom Football Conference championships in 2000 and 2002. He also helped Springfield earn national rushing titles in 2000 and 2002.
Bo McDougall Assistant Coach Stephen "Bo" McDougall is in his second stint on the Norwich coaching staff and will again join the Cadets lacrosse program for the Spring 2011 season. McDougall will work with the Cadet defenders this spring. McDougall, who received his bachelor’s degree in history from St. Lawrence in 2006, was a four-year starter for the Saints football team. An all-conference performer on the gridiron, McDougall served as a team captain during his senior campaign. In addition to his time on the football field, he was also a defender on the Saints lacrosse team. As a senior, McDougall helped lead the Saints to their first ever NCAA tournament win and a top-15 national ranking. As league champions, his senior class got the Saints started on what would become a 32-game conference win streak. Following graduation, McDougall joined the coaching staff at Norwich, serving as an assistant football and lacrosse coach during his two years on staff. 2011 Norwich Men’s Lacrosse
He returned to St. Lawrence in 2008 and served his alma mater as an assistant coach. McDougall received his masters degree in Education from St. Lawrence in May of 2010. A native of Hartford, Vt., McDougall played high school football and lacrosse at Hartford High School. After graduation he enrolled as a Post-Graduate at the Northfield Mt. Hermon School in Northfield, MA; where he again played both football and lacrosse.
