Head Coach Nick Cooper/ 2011 Season Preview Nick Cooper Head Coach Nick Cooper enters his first season at the helm of the Norwich University cross country programs. Cooper was an assistant coach last season for both the cross-country and track and field programs at his alma mater, NCAA Division I Drake University of Iowa in 2010-11. During his time competing at Drake, he was two-time team co-captain and a four-time member of the Missouri Valley Conference all-academic squad. Cooper also earned all-MVC honors for the Bulldogs in 2006. Cooper also qualified for USA Track and Field's Junior Nationals in 2003 and finished among the top 150 at the 2007 Chicago Marathon "It's great to be part of the Norwich community," said Cooper. "I'm looking forward to guiding the Cadets this fall. This is a great opportunity, and it's going to be a great year for us."

Cadets Leaning on Returning Experience Norwich cross country coach Nick Cooper understands the value of experience.

regional meet and was also in the top 10 at the GNACs en route to all-conference accolades. Cooper pointed at the return of senior Mallory Clark (Homer City, Pa.) also as a key for women's squad.

"I'm excited about what we have coming into the season," Norwich University's head men's and women's cross country coach said. "With seven of our top nine finishers back off the men's team that competed at last year's conference meet and the women's team having its top returner from 2010, there is potential for promising results."

"We'll be able to add a strong group of freshmen to each side," Cooper said. "I feel like we have at least three men's newcomers who could challenge for varsity slots right away. The women's first-year class has the same possibility."

Cooper, who became the Cadets' head coach in July, adds strong knowledge to lead his 2011 teams. He was an assistant at NCAA Division I Drake University of Iowa in 2010-11 in both cross country and track and field. Prior to coaching at his alma mater, he was a two-time team co-captain, four-time member of the Missouri Valley Conference all-academic squad and was all-MVC for the Bulldogs in 2006. Cooper also qualified for USA Track and Field's Junior Nationals in 2003 and finished among the top 150 at the 2007 Chicago Marathon.

The Maroon and Gold's season opens with a trip to the Keene State University of New Hampshire Invitational Saturday, Sept. 3. Cooper indicated that the first meet plus subsequent treks to Smith College and Middlebury College will help him build an idea of how the squads will look towards the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference and New England regional competitions. "It's a matter of me getting to know where the teams' fitness level is at and working through the first few meets," Cooper said.

Among the probable leaders for the men's squad is junior Joe Rosenthal (Pasadena, Md.). He was the top finisher for the squad at the 2010 New England
