The Norwich S-STEM Scholarship Program To help meet the national demand for qualified STEM professionals, NU offers scholarships, funded by a National Science Foundation grant, to eligible students in these programs: biochemistry, biology, chemistry, mathematics, neuroscience and physics. The scholarships are for students who meet certain academic requirements and have documented financial need. NU’s scholarships, used for tuition and fees, are offered in addition to other financial aid. Here’s more you should know: • The program will award four-year scholarships of up to $10,000 each year to students pursuing bachelor’s degrees. Scholarships will start at about $4,500 and increase each year. • Our campus support systems will keep you on track to graduate in four years, ready to succeed in your career. • You’ll be mentored by faculty, and peers will offer academic coaching if needed. • You will have opportunities to pursue cutting-edge research that will help you make your mark in the workplace or in graduate school.

Admissions Requirements for the Scholarship Program To be eligible for the program, students must: • Be a U.S. citizen, national of the U.S., alien admitted as a refugee, or an alien lawfully admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence. • Be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, mathematics, neuroscience or physics. (Some pre-health tracks are not eligible.) • Demonstrate financial need by being Pell Grant-eligible, based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). • Have unmet financial need as determined by NU’s Office of Financial Aid.
Academic Merit Requirements • High school or first-semester college performance of at least a 2.75 GPA. • Resumé showing participation in STEM activities (AP course, science fair, etc.). • Two confidential letters of recommendation from math or science teachers. • A statement to show your interest in STEM. The NU S-STEM Council may interview scholarship finalists in person or remotely. Scholars accepted into the program will be informed of their scholarship award before the NU admissions deadline.
Ongoing NU S-STEM Requirements To stay in the program, scholars must: • Be enrolled full-time in an NU S-STEM bachelor’s program. • Continue to demonstrate financial need by being Pell Grant-eligible and have unmet financial need as determined by NU. • Have earned the appropriate number of credit hours. Scholars also must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 at the end of their first year, 2.85 at the end of their sophomore year and 3.0 at the end of their senior year. NU S-STEM Scholars will stay on track to graduate within four years by being within six credits of the required minimum earned credit hours for their class year.
