VICTORIES WORSE THAN DEFEAT An announcement
First of all I want to thank you all for the tremendous response I’ve gotten since I was featured in one of OUYA’s newsletters. While I haven’t recieved a single written word directly I did get a massive increase in readers. From a couple of hundred to several thousand in fact. That is remarkable for a project like this - which is made just for fun. I guess I should explain why there haven’t been a new issue of VWTD in so long. I was actually planning on releasing one around halloween 2014. And then around christmas. But I never got to it, because of a multitude of reasons. I was very busy in school (yes, I am a student even though I’m almost 30 years old) and still am, I have my finals coming up and I just can’t justify spending too much time on my hobbies right now. I do it anyway, of course, but I feel kind of guilty about it and that’s no good for inspiration and creativity. The main reason, though, for not writing this issue until now is because I’ve had a major fallout. My OUYA console has been very questionable for several months, with severe overheating, fans going crazy, games dropping frames to a single digit value, crashing, freezing… (and I’m on the vanilla launcher with no sideloading going on, mind you). A far cry in the form of replacing the fan with a Noctua one did nothing to improve my situation. Let’s just say I didn’t want to think about the OUYA at all since it just made me sad (and envious on those with a console that was still working). I contacted OUYA and asked if there was anything I could do to increase the stability of my system but came up short - and of course they couldn’t replace it since I had tinkered with it. I factory resetted my system (goodbye 200+ games) to see if it would help but it did absolutely nothing to speed things up. And so one day I just decided that it was enough. I unplugged my OUYA and stopped caring about anything OUYA related for days. Weeks. Then I heard about heat sinks replacements. That was something I could afford and try myself so I ordered a few that would fit inside my OUYA. This was it. My last effort. I had to give my beloved OUYA this one last chance… And it didn’t work. I got the wrong sort of heat sinks and the existing one was soldered onto the board. I don’t want to sink (pun intended) anymore money in to this. I’m done with frustrating experiences in front of my TV (that’s what I have my PC for ;)) So, I’m leaving the world of OUYA until OUYA 2 is out. I can’t justify buying yet another OUYA “1” console when it performs only barely satisfactory anyway - so the only thing that would make me open my wallet again is a new, betterstrongercooler version of the console. I hope I’ll have a reason to continue doing this fanzine in the future, but as it stands right now - I am out. So with all my heart I hope they release an OUYA 2 - because then we’ll see each other in a new issue of Victories Worse Than Defeat. Starfighter
